NGINX Plus Basic - Ubuntu AMI
NGINX, Inc. | 1.7Linux/Unix, Ubuntu Ubuntu 18.04 LTS - 64-bit Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Great
Considering the general case. When any business uses this model, they have an open source "community edition" of their software product, which lacks many features of the commercial versions. It is indeed freely available under an open source license and fully functional. There will be many happy deployers of this version. If this was the only version available, there would be no issues.
The proprietary versions are significantly different from the community version, perhaps with both the user interface and the functions. While paid licensees are often entitled to source access to this version, the proprietary licence is not perpetual -- if the customer ends their relationship with the vendor, they lose the right to use this version.

fully tested? supported? When?
The product description claims that it is
"fully tested and supported by the Nginx engineering team"
and yet the AMI is both in serious need of upgrading, and doesn't contain setup scripts.
Great product, definitively recommended
I use nginx opensource edition for virtually all of my web serving needs. I am satisfied with the performance and it's good to see that they also target enterprises with the Plus edition. For my needs the opensource edition is enough but if someone wants a supported and equally professional web server solution this product is definitively a good deal for your bucks.
Works great out of the box for testing, but not production ready
Simple and quick to set up. Enabled me to get up and running quickly. Since I'm using it as a load balancer, loved the dynamic upstream feature.
I ended up using the free version in production, though, since I couldn't justify the cost as I'm able to do all I need with the free version.
Having this instance to look at helped me with the setup of the free one I ended up using.
I was a bit disappointed it didn't come optimized for performance for example:
increased port range
reuse/recycle time-wait sockets
increased nofile
Works great!
Works just as you would expect and saved me a lot of time. Reasonably priced and without bad surprises.
Not great if you want to extend nginx
It's fine for a stock web-server, but if you're trying to leverage any of the awesome 3rd party modules (http://wiki.nginx.org/3rdPartyModules) you're out of luck. I wish they'd include the source so you could build a more usable product.
