Broken config out of the box
A very useful build in FreeBSD, but required repairs in order to work.
The /setup interface is very slick, but attempts to save the config.inc.php in ~/ instead of /srv/web, which means it doesn't actually save your settings when you configure it.
Thus, attempting to use the / path with the phpMyAdmin interface fails.
Temporary fix: generate your config.inc.php file and then Download it. SSH into the box (port 65535) using the ec2-user account, and copy it manually into /srv/web with the ee text editor (make sure to set permissions as web:web 750)
