Octane Cloud Desktop (Linux)
OTOY | 1**Linux/Unix, Ubuntu 12.04 x64 - 64-bit Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
The Linux Octane Cloud Desktop AMI doesn't run correctly, at least with 1-click launch.
I ran the Linux Octane Cloud Desktop AMI, followed the OTOY instructions page, and upon connecting via ssh and running the suggested 'ps -edalf | grep GUID' step to determine the GUID that was auto-assigned, I found that it apparently didn't start the processes that handle the remote graphics, and it was thus unusable. The docs took some other shortcuts in terms of not documenting what username to login as for the Linux AMI, but one of the screen shots in the docs showed a shell prompt for the 'ubuntu' user and a 'sudo' step, so an observant user can figure it out, but the docs for Linux could be improved. Since the 1-click launch failed, I will likely try again with a manual launch and set the GUID by hand in the AMI userdata field per the docs, but I'm not very hopeful that will work either.

Very useful
We used it to render some blender projects using CUDA on GPU and it run very well. I really recommend it for render.
Octane Cloud Workstation - beta
Hm, what to say...
for a normal user, the way to set up the whole thing is overcomplicated.
But probably its the AWS thing and interface...not made for average users, but IT guys or so.
I hope when the cloud render WS is out of beta, there will be a one click solution to start a render or an instance.
What about the ease of use??
And what is that, only linux and windows? where is a mac osx support.
The idea is great...
I will definitely come back, when this solution matures enough - since i am a big fan of GPU rendering engines and the quality of Octane renderer!
It doesn't work
It hasn't worked for me, pure and simple. The required services failed to start properly, the GUID required for the remote access was missing from the command line. Some other people also reported similar problems, the responses on the forum were not helpful in my case. I also filed my forum inquiry, to no avail so far:

Besides, they should not be forcing you to use on demand instances by disabling the possibility to use spot, in particular now, when the product is apparently immature and not always works. I see no reason why I should be paying extra to debug their products.
