Root disk is always 8GB!
The only thing that stinks big time with this image is that root filesystem is always 8GB even though you allocate more while launching an instance. I don't think it is safe to "resize" a live filesystem so you need to use a dirty workaround to resize the filesystem image. Ubuntu and some other images don't have this problem.

Disk setup really sucks
I don't understand all those who say that this image comes with LVM.
I instantiated an new VM this moment just to be sure - US-EAST-1, ami-c2a818aa - no LVM tools, and when installing LVM tools manually (`yum install lvm2`), there are no volume groups detected.
Resizing the disk using fdisk on the live root works, but requires a reboot and feels wrong.
I would recreate the image myself, but I can't attach the drive as a slave to another vm for cloning, and can't recreate the AMI in my Xen setup because the build script for this AMI is not publicly available (or can found, anyway).
Otherwise it's no better or worse than the PV image.
CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM Review
The actual installation of CentOS 6 was simple enough. The CLI is fine. I've been trying to set up a GUI (VirtualBox-4.3-4.3.26_98988_el6-1.x86_64.rpm) without success. I've installed SDL-1.2.15-1.src.rpm and qt-4.6.2-26.el6_4.src.rpm; however, when I try the actual install of VirtualBox, I keep getting messages that more is needed (e.g. - lib% files). I have not been able to fully evaluate CentOS 6.
Why no cloud-init?
This AMI lacks the cloud-init package. This means that it cannot be configured via user-data. Please add cloud-init to this AMI so that instances can be configured programmatically via user-data.
Root partition resize
The AMI needs to be updated so that the root partition could be resized in automated way (even if needs to go through a reboot).
Root partition has only 8GB
This image is good, with a minimal installation. But it's impossible to increase root partition..
