By implementing Sophos we were able to centrally control all security policies governing ingress traffic, and ensure that proper protection policies are in place for each application VPC. They are also able to easily gather logging data in a central location which can then be used for Administration, troubleshooting, and auditors.
Sophos UTM is a strong and reliable network protection device
What do you like best about the product?
Honnestly Sophos UTM offers a super strong level of protection all around the network and it's a super reliable and low-maintenance devie. We work with Sophos product for about 10 years now and we are always very impressed on how reliable they are, but also very effective to protect our medium sized business. We also use several other products from Sophos, such as Endpoint and Server advanced protection and they are integrate with the UTM. The Sophos "eco system" is as user-friendly as Apple products, but at an entreprise level. I must also mention that while business security devices and application are NOT cheap, Sophos offers some VERY competitive price point and if you combine several products/services, they are always avaible to offer a kind of "group deal".
What do you dislike about the product?
It's sometime a bit hard to get technical support from Sophos. They are a very great company, but sometime when I have some very in-depth questions, I feel like it's hard to get clear answers. But otherwise nothing to complaint about Sophos!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Well, this answer is very easy to answer! Sophos UTM provides the required and even more level of protection any size business absolutely need. It's not even optional to get this type of device in any business, it's mandatory.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Sophos is supposed to release a completely new generation of appliances in 2018, so after trying it out we will see if Sophos is still in the right direction or if we will choose another appliance manufacturer.

Used in production for 4 months
We are using the Auto-Scaling solution with the WAF feature to protect 3 of our customer's web applications as part of a "shared security tier" model, split over multiple peered VPCs, and so far the UTM has been great. It has done most of what has been asked of it with no failures. Even on the minimum recommended size of m4.large for the controller and c4.large for the workers, it has not needed to scale up once yet.
We also use it for support users dialling in to AWS via the SSL VPN, and it is intuitive and easy to support via the User Portal, even with 2FA turned on.
The only criticism is that Sophos Support have not been great at supporting the Auto-Scaling model in AWS, it is almost as if they have had little to no training on it and several times I have had to explain it to them in full before any sort of support is necessary. I did however have great support from the After-Sales team which more than made up for it.
So far we have not updated the firmware on the solution for fear of it falling over, the documentation on this (updating the CF template to get the latest Up2Date) is pretty basic and doesn't fill me with confidence.
Bottom line is: The UTM auto-scaling does its job and it does it well, however the Support (and we are paying for Premium support) leaves much to be desired.

What do you like best about the product?
How through it is. It protects EVERY aspect of our data coming in and going out. The reporting and alerts are fantastic in assisting in tracking down issues within the network.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming when setting up access to certain rules, ports, sites, etc. But Sophos support is spot on and always there to help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeps all of our data safe, keeps our users (rather they be guests or employees) safe, we don't have to worry about data breaches. Peace of mind.

If you are worried about network security, look no further.
Sophos has a nice user interface and works well with other equipment
What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is nice and clean and pretty straight forward which is nice when first starting to use Sophos. I have also found that it works well with most other systems, whether that be other firewalls, or other equipment like switches and phone systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't really run into any problems at this point to complain about.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use our UTMs for VPN, firewall, and some extension filitering. We use some other webbased tools, for additional layers of security.
Sophos - does it work?
What do you like best about the product?
From a security point of view, i do believe its one of the best in the market. It offers a secure way to encrypt your data and provide an audit way needed many times.
What do you dislike about the product?
Under certain situations, Sophos simply will not crypt the disk. For example, some bad sectors or even some other 'SW' bug makes some issues and we could think everything is encrypted and its not!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Security, Information Confidentiality and Auditability. Many of these goals are not implemented to have financial benefits but there are many other ways to get the value out of the tool.

Ensure you have all policies defined and do some periodic audits.

What do you like best about the product?
Full featured UTM that will handle most requirements of an SMB that requires remote access for employees, web content filtering, and email filtering. Easy to use interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support is sometimes lacking and takes awhile to answer even the most basic questions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping the network safe from viruses, malware, and spam. Allowing easy access via IPSec VPN for remote users. Visibility into the types and amount of traffic machines are accessing on the internet.

All functions are disabled when the security subscriptions are expired.
