Ubuntu is just the way to go

  • October 15, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
I like it MOSTLY bc its how i learned linux. But I've found it to be very reliable for production services. I use BInd9 on it in our production environment and I have never had an operating system related issue. I have used CentOS and RedHat and I always default to Ubuntu. The only reasons i wouldnt use ubuntu is that there are, obviously, some applications that arent compatable with Ubuntu
What do you dislike about the product?
Even though you can "secure" it, there needs to be more built-in security controls. Its kind of a pain to go through and do obvious security configs. However, Our environment is shifted to AWS so there are plenty of CIS images out there so its not that big of a deal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
so what i found that saved A LOT of money is hybrid DNS between microsoft and AWS Route53. If all you need is forwarding then it works perfectly for forwarding from microsoft to r53. This could easily be done with aws managed ad but a t2.small linux box is much cheaper. For DELEGATING dns zones though it wont work but pretty sweet for forwarding a hybrid dns. example: Developers code pipeline creates r53 records on prem need to resolve, so instead of wasting company money on a managed ad just for forwarding i used Bind9 on Ubuntu and works beautifly and MUCH cheaper. Delegating is a different story though but, again, forwarding dont waste your money on a managed ad, use bind on Ubuntu

Ubuntu; Lightweight operating system with multiple tools.

  • October 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like Ubuntu a lot because it is an open source operating system, with a powerful Linux-based system, with multiple tools, among them is the application update quickly. This software is lightweight but with great potential which is perfect for limited computers too. It has all the benefits for the university and the office.
What do you dislike about the product?
Only it should improve the graphic quality and be more accessible to users without knowledge in the area.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu has been very useful for me to work from home and on my job site, it doesn't make changes. It is one of the best options that offers security in the protection of files, which allows simple tasks to be carried out in the office to graphics, therefore I have realized that it is very beneficial in all areas.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend using Ubuntu for those users who want to experiment with free software. It is virus free and offers easy access to all applications. You have nothing to envy Windows.

Fast and secure Ubuntu

  • October 12, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Most important part of Ubuntu is its Kernel is Linux based which makes it more secure than windows and it is faster than windows also. In Ubuntu we can install packages by simply typing commands in terminal and this is very fast process. Ubuntu is secure operating system because no one can run executable files. We can set permission to files also.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't dislike anything in Ubuntu but many users refuse to use Ubuntu because of its interface which is not that much user friendly and still people like to use windows for their ease. File structure in Ubuntu is not so good as compare to windows. Commands need to be remembered by the user because single mistake in command can stop the whole process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are running different kinds of services on Ubuntu which make our tasks easier and it is easy to configure those application on linux as compare to windows. Our DHCP server and DNS server running on Ubuntu machine,
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For the security of the organization their system admin should choose Ubuntu over windows which help them to secure their files with enhanced security.

A very convenient OS for developpers

  • October 11, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a developer i've switched to ubuntu 2 years ago and since then i never got back to any other OS, because ubuntu helps you to install any development environment with simple command lines, and with a whole community behind to help you in case of installation errors.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing i dislike about ubuntu, what will be preferable is supporting more games
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use ubuntu for python development, and recently blockchain simulation. What i've managed to solve using ubuntu is running a docker simulation which is not 100% supported by windows.

Easiest to use Linux Operations System

  • October 10, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
If you need a Linux operating system that is easy to use and requires very little user training over Windows, Ubuntu is the distribution to go with. Ubuntu has made it easy to switch from Windows to Linux.
What do you dislike about the product?
Ubuntu has tried to abstract too much away from the user. While it is great that they have made things easy to use, i wish they would allow more granular configuration through CLI vs making it more difficult to do in their GUI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Installing and running programs / scripts that require linux and cannot run on Windows. It has allowed us to efficiently run these programs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend this platform over Centos, Redhat, Oracle Linux Etc for end users. It is much easier to use.

Best OS for developers

  • October 07, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Free and open source operating system with powerful system built on Linux is what Ubuntu is all about. It is so easy to use even when you are switching from Windows. There are no long running unnecessary jobs running in backend, less chance of getting attacked by a malware and free to use license is why I switched from Windows to Ubuntu.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes there is this annoying message when I boot up which says, "System program problem detected" which doesn't provide any troubleshooting or any way to fix the problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu is my go to Operating System for both work and home PC. Its simplicity and nice UI and fast extfs file system makes it a great OS for a developer. Since a lot of IDE uses many small files to perform tasks such as compiling, debugging, extfs does the job faster than ntfs file system which significantly improves speed of development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Once you use Ubuntu you don't go back to Windows. It's simplicity is what makes it best.

    Computer Software

Best bug free OS

  • October 07, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The OS has, in my personal professional experience, never crashed. Everything is available from the terminal. All you need is to learn to type in a few commands and you are good to go. Ubuntu is also thoroughly customizable. You can customize it to be whatever you want it to look like.
What do you dislike about the product?
After getting used to the UI features of Windows, it is hard, in the initial stages to switch to Ubuntu. Once the switch is made, it is hard to go back. However, it will discourage new users to switch from Windows to Ubuntu. My colleagues had to get semi-professional training before they started moving into the actual code at work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used Ubuntu to develop all our applications. The process was very easy with a few commands like "touch", "awk", "sed" etc., we were able to accomplish pretty much whatever we wanted without having to move around the screen with a mouse.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn a few commands, they will come in very handy. It may seem hard at first, but once you are used to it, it will be very hard to let go.
