Just use apt-get
Just enter:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install kali-linux-default -y
It's not hard. Don't give kali a bad review because you are incapable of doing simple tasks.
Quick and useful
Just need to install few packages that you need, and everything is fine.
You can check packages here (as it seems not so many people understand it..): https://www.kali.org/news/kali-linux-metapackages/
I've lost faith in humanity
Honestly if you're launching this and aren't able to find the tooling metapackages I despair, but before you leave another 1 start review like the masses below, use one of the following:
apt-get install kali-linux-default
apt-get install kali-linux-large
apt-get install kali-linux-everything
This is nothing the below users couldn't have googled themselves. Please be better.
If you cant update the tools, this probably isnt the distro for you
It's amazing how this has such a low rating by people who cant read directions. Yes, this is installed bare-bones. Why? Because they don't know what size of server you are going to be running it on, so they don't know what tools to install.
If you cant figure out how to install the basic packages:https://www.kali.org/news/kali-linux-metapackages/ you probably shouldn't be trying to spin up kali in the cloud. Stick to a persistent USB, or VM.
Anyway, here's the Tl;DR:
apt-get update && apt-cache search kali-linux
apt-get install kali-linux-default
Just install kali-linux-default and you get your tools
There is no GUI. You need to set up VNC or some other remote access setup if you want that. A lot of comments complain about nmap, other tools not being installed... The Kali Linux installer runs sudo apt install kali-linux-default by default, but you can do that with this AMI and get everything you want. It's an AMI, a base image. It expects you to install what you need, like any other AMI. It does what it needs to do.
It seems to flag behind Kali Linux releases, however. Kali Linux 2020.3 has been released for about a week and this AMI has not yet been updated. But 5 days isn't so long, I imagine it will be updated soon.

"Usage Instructions: Once your instance is running, connect to it with your SSH private key using the "ec2-user" account."
For those who need to hear it.
Please add new instance types
I cannot upgrade my instance from m4.large to m5.large, because:
An error occurred while trying to change the instance type for this instance
The instance configuration for this AWS Marketplace product is not supported. Please see the AWS Marketplace site for more information about supported instance types, regions, and operating systems.
Great help but .....
Greet help but keep in mind that you need to request pentest before you start using any tool inside KALI.

Great Distro, Great Company
We use Kali Linux every single day in penetration tests. It's great for us to be able to spin up another instance whenever we need it. The company is great as well, they will answer any questions you have on Twitter extremely fast!
