There is literally no point to this, they haven't changed the windows image at all as far as I can tell. You can only run Bluestacks 2, which you can do anyway by just running standard windows 2012 R2. If you try to run Bluestacks >2 you get the same old hyper-v message. Useless imo.

Minimum Instance Size Possible

I tried to determine the minimum "useable" EC2 Instance that would support Bluestacks. Here is what I learned:

(1) t2-nano --> won't even startup, not sure why this is even a selection.

(2) t2-micro --> tries to start, gets up to Google login and then hangs. Again, why is this even a selection.

(3) t2-small --> will go through complete startup, but only useable for static apps such as text based. Not sure why anyone would use this although it does startup.

(4) t2-medium --> lowest useable EC2 Instance. Will start and basic, low-color low-action games can be played. It is noticeably slow, but does work at least.

I looked at memory usage of the t2-small instance and the RAM is 100% used, which explains the sluggish performance. Probably doing disk swaps.

I looked at the memory usage of the t2-medium instance and out of 4GB, 2.1GB was used up. Which again makes since given that the 2GB t2-small instance uses 100% of the 2GB available memory.

Also, I don't understand why the only disk option is 125GB. Should be smaller options like 32GB and 64GB. The full server takes up about 25GB, so for configurations with only a few small apps, 32GB should work. This is an issue because of the monthly EBS storage charges which could easily be more expensive than the cost to run the instance. Instance usage time is not 24-7 x 365 days, but EBS is. At 125GB for the disk, EBS costs about $12 per month unless you move it over to S3.

Perhaps I will next try to see what the limits of performance are as more powerful instances are used. I suspect that the performance probably won't be much better than the t2-medium since nearly 2GB of RAM was still available after boot. Perhaps if the program is multi-threaded that might help.
