Ubuntu 18.04 LTS - Bionic
Canonical Group Limited | Ubuntu 18.04 20230531Linux/Unix, Ubuntu 18.04 - Bionic - 64-bit Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Reliable and a pleasure to use
Canonical have consistently pushed out a reliable, decently fast, up-to-date and easy-to-use distribution. In my experience, Ubuntu is the best "all-rounder" for linux distributions. It has a great debian core but polished to maximum. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is a solid foundation for any server.

the root user is renamed as goot
This is causing issues with the installation of the rpcbind packages and the efs utils can't be installed , neither the nfs. Huge trouble for us. We are considering using the usual Ubuntu rather than this version.
Official Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
This image is the official upstream from Canonical. Not that Ubuntu Bionic on AWS uses netplan to manage the network.
Good base Ubuntu image
This is a good base 2018 variant Ubuntu base image with Long Term Support . Need to learn iproute2 and netplan for netwroking, but everyhting else is as expected.
