Great innovation in database world-- But not ready for mass markets

  • April 21, 2015
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
Lightning speed analytics and query response
Excellent compression ratio,
Unbelievably faster resutlts
What do you dislike?
Very Primitive User interface-- HANA Studio is not suitable for everyone.
Data size is limited by hardware--(Memory) -
No real HA-DR or replication solution
Extremely Expen$ive.. Alternates (Oracle IMDB, DB2-BLU) are relatively cheap
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Running a benchmark to compare features/performance/compression/cost numbers between Oracle IMDB, DB2-BLU and SAP-HANA. HANA seems to outperform among all, but the platform is relatively unstable, not a good platform to put your business critical data infrastructure,.

SAP BI sucks

  • February 23, 2015
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
Detail process and ability to merge data from various sources. SAP does all the work to move you from Oracle to Hana.
What do you dislike?
Complexity and it's not so fast. It's hard to maintain and not sure how we are going to manage this when the DB size keeps growing. There has to be a way to archive the old data to disk from memory.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Reporting and analyzing customer behavior.

Not any major benefits.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's not as easy as SAP will make you think.

SAP HANA Cloud Platform, the in-memory Platform-as-a-Service offering from SAP, enables customers and developers to build, extend, and run applications on SAP HANA in the cloud.
There are good reasons for the companies to go with the Cloud services. These are
Fast implementation time,Reduced IT efforts to maintain bot the Hardware and Software operations and maintenance is the provider's responsibility, Flexible due to subscription rather than licensing contracts,
scalability to support changing business needs.
What do you dislike?
SAP HANA is not a platform for loading, processing, and analyzing huge volumes – petabytes or more of unstructured data, commonly referred to as big data. Therefore, HANA is not suited for social networking and social media data analytics. But SAP has given the option to connect with the Big-data, Hadoop from it's last release of SP07.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Enterprises collect large volumes of structured data via legacy ERP, CRM, and other systems. One option to make use of this data is to extract, transform, and load subsets into a traditional enterprise data warehouse for analysis. This process is time-consuming and requires significant investment in related proprietary hardware.
SAP HANA offers enterprises a new approach to harnessing the value of all that corporate data. Its data replication and integration capabilities vastly speed up the process of loading data into the database. And because it uses in-memory storage, applications on top of HANA can access data in near-real time. HANA can also perform predictive analytics to help organizations plan for future market developments.
