What do you like best?
Zabbix is a monitoring system with exceptional power, for noobs users once downloaded is ready to play, for advanced users have the flexibility to be adapted quickly to your needs, one of best features is that Zabbix allows me to receive timely through reporting system any incidents that threaten the key points of our data center via SMS and Mail, has allowed us to know the weaknesses of our data center as well as improve our SLA.

I have tried many other monitoring products such like Zenoss OS, Hyperic OS, Foolight Dell, Cisco UCS, HP SiteScope, and the best cost / benefit relation and easy use actually only Zabbix can offer.
What do you dislike?
1.- I'm dislike of Zabbix is you google api location, is to hard to programming and adapt it, create logical diagrams in zabbix is a manual task, in this field it has much to learn from other systems such as Zenoss, who automatically and only with initial load of devices may draw it.

2-. Create logical diagrams in Zabbix is so hard and manual task, in this field it has much to learn from other systems such as Zenoss, who automatically and only with the initial loading of devices can draw a basic but powerfull logical diagram.

3.- Autodiscovery devices using templates is to hard for noobs people too, neverthless auto-discovery properly set up, it can speed up of Zabbix.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
1.- Election software develop work to fast, Zabbix help us monitoring pre-production problems detection with based RDBMS software.
2.- Actually try to build templates for hardware monitoring, EMC SAN VNX5300 and EMC SAN VNX5700 monitoring via SNMP.
3.- I working on integrate some VMware Products via API.

Common monitoring tools

What do you like best?
Zabbix is one of my favorite monitoring tools, easy to use, easy to customize and have great supports and development.

You can monitor any you want to monitor, you just write a small script and Zabbix will monitor it for you. For example, you can monitor how many users log in on your system by typing "who", just write bash script contain "who" as the external script and modify the value on Zabbix and Zabbix will do monitor.
What do you dislike?
Start from zabbix 2.4 you cannot clustering zabbix again, that make a problem when you have to monitor many devices. Using zabbix proxy is not enough, so you must doing some trick to balancing your zabbix servers.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
devices monitoring, daemon monitoring, network devices monitoring etc.
sending alets when problem occurs
Recommendations to others considering the product:
just try and let zabbix work for you

An amazing and open source tool to monitoring your Infrastructure and Business

What do you like best?
The evolution of the tool and his community are, for me, the astonishing features about it that I really like about this tool.

In term of features, there is a great range of possibilities to monitor you network but the killer feature for me is the possibility of acting pro-actively in a automated form trough actions and let the app managers or even the final users visualize information about their applications and have some sort of interaction with them.
What do you dislike?
The Web Interface is very useful for administrators, but if you really need a good solution to create and provide some insightful reports, then you going to need a third party application (like grafana and others); Zabbix Interface is limited in this field.

Another point, in terms of a enterprise solution is: the WebInterface doesn't support authorization plugins or even authorization using a LDAP database (e.g); in this point, you can use LDAP or HTTP (Kerberos, Winbind and other authentication methods enters in this room) to authenticate a user but not to authorize, which is not so suitable for enterprise environments.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I'm working with this tool for 5 years now and I solved different kind of problems: DataCenter IT monitoring, Business monitoring and some integration with Enterprise apps as Well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need a tool have a great possibilities of integration, supports both Unixes and Windows, integrating a great range of features, like VMWare Monitoring Support, JMX Monitoring, SNMP, Agent Monitoring and customization/integration in the side of clients then, this solution can be for you.

In the integration part, I'll recommend some sort of Bash/PowerShell (or Python :D) knowledge and in the part of the administration of the application a good set of Linux or Unixes skills is recommended and good skills to maintain a healthy database can be very good as well.

Zabbix is an amazing free monitoring solution

  • March 24, 2016

What do you like best?
Zabbix is highly configurable and I've found it very useful both personally and professionally. While Nagios is usually the gold standard of Linux monitoring, Zabbix basically includes all of the features of Nagios along with a a free web interface as well as built-in graphs! The ability to graph any and all data imaginable from Zabbix is definitely my favorite feature.
What do you dislike?
While Zabbix is an amazing application, I believe that it would be beneficial if there were additional agent-less features that allowed simpler monitoring of servers or even URLs without installing and configuring the Zabbix agent software.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We have stream-lined alerting and reporting of problem situations by having Zabbix report errors to Slack automatically. I created a custom integration script for Zabbix that I've called "zabbix-slack-alertscript" and made freely publicly available:

Becomes a proactive company

What do you like best?
What I like about Zabbix that it is aimed at providing information infrastructure that monitors and services or processes, when you know that IT resources have and the information from these, you have time where they can best develop strategies and the objectives of the company in its computer park. In addition, Zabbix helps you in planning and organization, acquisition and implementation, because you know what services are available and you should give support, Zabbix monitors the status and performance of your devices or IT equipment through its client using various especially the SNMP protocols, with this you can take comfort in knowing that you have control of the information. Zabbi leads the company to take full advantage of their equipment and dispositovos monitored, thus achieving maximizing benefits, capitalizing on opportunities and gaining competitive advantage. One of the underrated options Zabbix is that it is your ideal for your projects Internet of things companion. Forget Nagios, Cacti and similar software.
What do you dislike?
You want to start Zabbix in your company? You know how to use Linux? You have some notion of ITIL?
If you do not have expertise in IT infrastructure, IT Governance, ITIL or Linux will be a real headache.
Despite that unlike Nagios, Zabbix works via web, you need to know Linux, SNMP, OIDs know and understand and read system events.
Some things will have to perform on command console or at the time such applications rely Webmin to complete some tasks or make troubleshooting.
Zabbix does not work alone. You need a partner to handle the management of events, information or reporting problems Zabbix. In my opinion one of the best companions of Zabbix are "pfsense", "Splunk" and "GLPI".
Splunk will serve you for insights when you have too many devices to monitor and report many similar problems or require taking based on analysis of logs decisions.
GLPI in turn can be integrated with Zabbix where Zabbix can send status information via API equipment, devices, resources or services offline, problems or blocked and generate a ticket to be served.
With pfsense you can interconnect different network segments and monitor them with Zabbix or even monitor multiple remote sites even if they are using VPN.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
- Monitor all devices on my network
- Know your status
- Knowing what services are running or which are failing
- Segmenting the types of equipment and perform tasks by type and category
- Know the status of my network
- Making decisions on time
- Automate certain processes
- Have information Just in Time
- Being able to know that this could fail or failing on my network or infrastructure and take preventive action contrary to be taking corrective action.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You must have trained technical staff in Linux
You must have technical staff who understands the different protocols, ports and types of service
You must have people with ability to analyze events, records and logs
You must have a good system of UTM to interconnect your network and monitor both your local network and your external networks.
You must have a good knowledge in troubleshooting network or linux.
You must have a good hardware if you are monitoring many devices Zabbix makes heavy use of the system especially database and hard disk.
Do not expect results from one day to another Zabbix implementation takes time and must have a project or list of things to know that you're going setting, adapting and inventory and then monitor it.

Zabbix review

  • July 13, 2015
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
1) Discovery of network, disc, filesystems, memory, perfomance metrics
(in the fact you install their zabbix client on the computer and it auto fills it on the control panel)
System Logs collection (which I was looking for in the change the last couple weeks).
Define your screens of what you want to view, then it has a slide show portion that you can make several screens and it will rotate through on a web page.
What do you dislike?
it won't automagically figure out what to monitor, when to alert you and etc - you will have to think about what metrics you are interested in and configure them upfront;

debugging leaves something to be desired. although with such a small environment help options like forum, irc channel etc should suffice easily.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I am monitoring inhouse servers, from server resources to JMX applications.

zabbix can monitor using methods like snmp, simple network checks (is a port open ?), and it also has native agent for many platforms. as the agent is written in c, it has extremely small footprint (as opposed to bunch of interpreted scripts...). you can easily combine different checks on a single monitored host. note that you are not limited to monitoring servers, you can also add network devices and other things.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Zabbix has a web configuration, while Nagios uses text files. While web configuration seems nice, it is a pain to automate like using Chef or Puppet.
Zabbix has graphs and stats collection via SNMP or custom agent. Nagios don't. Even so, you must think if you are really looking for graphing support or just a robust monitoring system to tell you if something goes down.
Zabbix is resource hungry. It uses a DB to store all the stats and configuration and this can grow exponentially depending on the number of hosts you are monitoring. Nagios works very fast and normally will not require the ammount of resources that Zabbix does. You can tune zabbix, of course, but it's more work to do.

Its a great tool to use for server monitoring
