Datadog for visualization of the server infrastructure

  • May 09, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Something I especially like about Datadog is the endless integration options it provides. It works perfect with platforms like Slack and AWS. The dashboards always show all the relevant information on the same screen, especially when it comes to graphics. They’re also easy to customize and read. The interface is modern and intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although I think the interface from Datadog is great, I think it lacks of options for configuring agents, so it can make this process quicker. Something Datadog really needs is to be woven into codes, in order to gain independence and become more efficient. Other than that, I consider Datadog to be a great tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Datadog is our tool for the proper visualization of the performance of our server infrastructure. We use several tools from Datadog, specially the dashboard functionality to get a general and yet quick view of the current state of our environment. Whenever there’s an issue with our servers or websites, Datadog will always show accurately where’s the problem and when it was detected.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If your job requires writing, testing and running applications, which occasionally generate large data, then Datadog would be a great tool for viewing this information graphically. If you work with other tools, you can always integrate them with Datadog. On the other hand, I would not recommend Datadog for process level metrics, as I think other tools, like Zabbix or Icinga, could work better on this.

Performance alert

  • May 09, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Makes application performance management with end-to-end monitoring warn of the security of data stored in the application that fail and cause a malfunction that may be compromised

Datadog can monitor and alert on different source categories that incorporate log files, performance metrics, availability, configuration and tracking changes
Monitoring is directed to data points that generate large amounts of records and data that focus on a series of critical events
What do you dislike about the product?
The start of the monitoring configuration of the application must be carried out by an expert developer in the subject so that its configuration is correct from the beginning and its operation is correct and in the future there is no damage or stop working properly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I like the monitoring that goes from end to end perfecting each application and controlling its correct operation, which is the right one to avoid irreparable damages that can not be fixed in time, all the work that Datadog does, it seems spectacular to have a tool that gives me this security to be seeing all the applications of the system

Who knows what is slow? DataDog!

  • May 03, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I pretty much only use the APM part of the software since that is most useful to my job (Developer). I can spent 5min in DataDog to identify work for the next week.
Integrating in existing product was very easy, setup and maintenance are easy. Does not feel like it adds any overhead to the app.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few features I would like to see as a developer, support is generally open to ideas, but it rarely ends up being implemented.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is really hard to know what is slow, and if it is slow does it actually get used. I often encounter "slow" pages while writing code, but these might be things only used two times a day. With DataDog I can find useful overviews from the production environment to what is actually slow and used. There seems to be no performance impact by DataDog tracer at 100% sampling.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For complex applications you will need use customized tagging. Also, sql my by obfuscated a little bit too much.

App performance

  • April 27, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have always felt that datadog has a very advanced system more than any other software that provides the same services because its good performance and the results that have been released have affirmed that all the monitoring of the app and programs of the company are well monitored by Datadog, providing a good 24/7 monitoring service making sure that any warning of something that is failing will reach the notification to the mail informing what is happening
What do you dislike about the product?
To place a profile picture on my datadog account, direct it to another page to create an avatar and there is a possibility to customize the datadog account with the photo but I do not like to do all this process in order to have my photo and try to create my avatar in the page that directs me datadog and is a very slow page that has no explanation of how to do then choose to leave the photo without the account
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Any failure that is going to happen in any app or program keeps me informed of the performance that is processing to be alert that if it is not fixed and the necessary measures are taken, the information that is saved can be lost that is why before it causes more damage fix it and thus avoid more problems

Excelent monitoring tool!

  • April 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The simple it is to get started, just install the agent and create a dashboard. Then personalize the metrics you want to track
What do you dislike about the product?
So far I didn't find anything to strongly dislike. Everything is pretty much very well done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Log monitoring in order to identify issues in our services before its too late to do something about it and in consequence have lots of clients impacted by this
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Datadog is a very well rounded tool, with lots of features and compatible with many many many services.
I would carefully review the pricing, but other than that is a solid go to. They have a 2 week free trial that I highly recommend.

A solution for monitoring applications and servers in real-time

  • April 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog has powerful integration. Practically, it can be supported with almost any service and it provides data collection with specific metrics and time series. The price is another great factor from Datadog, making it available and less expensive than the competition, especially for micro-services.
What do you dislike about the product?
This is not an easy software to learn. The learning curve is heavy and it will take some time. The UI is rough and it’s something that definitely needs to be improved. Alerts are not precisely easy to set. This feature should be simplified.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
On the dev-ops section, inside the IT department, we use Datadog as our solution for monitoring in real-time our applications and servers. All of them have DataDog Rest API implemented. It gives us a great visual of the resources used by the CPU and the ability to set alerts in case of emergencies.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Considering its price, Datadog is would be great for cloud-centric companies looking for a monitoring solution. However, beware you may need to take some time to learn how to configure it properly, in order to get the best of it.

Super flexible and tons of metrics by which you can set alerts and build dashboards.
What do you dislike about the product?
You have to be pretty technical to use the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We monitor our integration applications for response times and JVM health.

Versatile product at a great value

  • April 19, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog allows you to collect and cross-reference various metadata about your application--it's wonderful to have APM, container health monitoring, and logs in one place. Also, I spent a LOT of time with Datadog support... and I mean, A LOT, because our use case (our app is Dockerized and deployed on Aptible) is not typical. The support team was, pun intended, dogged in their persistence to help me get Datadog working for us. And it's a great value, cost-wise.
What do you dislike about the product?
The query functionality on the logs is not as advanced/flexible as I'd like, nor are the alerting capabilities. For instance, I'd like to be able to run a given log query (e.g., how many errors like X in the last 12 hours) and post it to slack or email or whatever, and right now this isn't supported. Also, for us to really get full use, we need them to offer a BAA, since we are HIPAA compliant. (Right now, we restrict what goes into Datadog to stay compliant.)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a cost-effective log storage solution and we also really liked that we could get APM functionality in the same app--and we needed to be able to do it all in our particular infrastructure, namely we need to run a separate Docker container that runs the Datadog agent. We get the benefit now of having our metadata in one place for not a lot of money.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If price is a concern, Datadog is the best value out there.

Interactive boards in real time

  • April 17, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Quickly drag and drop the graphs to visualize metrics and events

You can clone and edit dashboards with templates

Through API it automatically generates new scorecards programmatically

I visualize the graphics metrics with maps and main lists

I supervise specific points in a graph to alert the members of the work team about possible problems

You can apply internal access controls to control panels
What do you dislike about the product?
When it is integrated with too many app you start to see delays in the delivery of information that can last minutes is not much delay but if it affects so that my work is fast because those minutes make me lose time and therefore take the option to unlink several integrations so that the datadog platform is the same as fast as a start
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
You can have an optimal monitoring of all the app that are installed in the system and know its proper functioning or a possible problem before it is caused because datadog realizes first and alerts on this to take the necessary procedures before the damage

Problem solving

  • April 13, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Indicates the success or failure of each app installed on the computers of the company and so know the performance of each if its functionality is correct or something is failing, looking for low performance solutions making each app work without any problem

It shows me the success of the service with codes that refer to the possible errors that are in the system or when there is a code in HTTP status indicates the success showing in detail well informed of each warning that produces
What do you dislike about the product?
In the option that they have to use for a free period the platform does not have technical support enabled, but in the other paid plans if it is enabled but it is free, which if it is free it is obvious that to begin with I would have many questions but I had no one to answer it with the training tutorials I learned, but many things were missing that when I started paying I asked them but at the beginning I did not like that detail
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have the control of the proper functioning of each app or each program that is installed and also the control of the malfunction that each program has and thus to know if the malfunction continues or the app or the program has to be changed for another that its operation if it is the right one
