Root filesystem not using all available free space

  • December 23, 2020

Even if the default volume for this image is 10Gb, the root filesystem size is 2.8Gb only. There is also a 1Gb boot partition, and the rest of the available space is not used! So basically you do not use the entire storage you pay for... Also, if you increase the volume size to, lets say, 100Gb, the root filesystem does not grow, as one would expect from a cloud image. You can obviously do that manually, but hey...

# lsblk
xvda 202:0 0 10G 0 disk
├─xvda1 202:1 0 1G 0 part /boot
└─xvda2 202:2 0 2.8G 0 part /

root partition size is 2GB

Working good at first sight, but default root partition size is 2GB only.
So be ready to extend XFS partition (no LVM here) is you choose this image.

PS didn't check details and other security stuff.
