  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
It helps in deploying your cloud-based on your data and on-premises. Users will be able to confidently store their data. It is facilitating users with improved security measures such as management of lifecycle, two-factor authentication, and end-to-end encryption. It facilitates staff by providing them secure, flexible, and easy sharing of their files. It helps in sharing public links protected by passwords and expiry dates. You will be able to control that who is accessing your data.
What do you dislike?
It will take time to set up your cloud. Only you will be responsible for the loss of your data. If your data is deleted it will not be recovered because it is not like Google cloud and dropbox etc. it will provide slow speed such as 2Mbps. Its downloading and uploading speed is slow. It will be difficult to share your content with others.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Users will be able to get rid of slow connections of VPN, spam email attachments, and public clouds with an improper security system. It helps teams in collaborating from everywhere on any device. Teams will be able to work, share, and store their data more efficiently from a single place. It helps in working on documents and creating presentations in real-time. It helps in saving time for the coordination and processes of feedback.

Good opensource software for file storage and sharing

  • July 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
The best thing is that it is open source and therefore free. It is also very well updated, and in addition to the online and desktop version, you have an official app for Android and IOS, all without any cost. It is really an excellent option for those who want a more personalized product or who manage information that they want to host on their own servers.
What do you dislike?
The software is very good and if you are the end user it will be great, but many of those who use OwnCloud do it because it is free, but they are not taking into account that you have to pay for a server to install it, and you will also need a good administrator so that take care of the installation and administration of it once it is working. It is a tool that, if not properly maintained, can cause various headaches.

That is at the administrator level, owner, but at the end user level it goes very well with the disadvantage that it does not have a collaborative document management as if it has Google Drive for example, where several users edit at the same time.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
You may know about hosting and servers, because you run the app in your own server. You choose the storage because you buy the server for your own. Is very cheap in comparison to services like Dropbox.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You need some support behind. A server admin or a company that provides the full servers (ownclod + server + administration and support).

Good free private cloud storage system

  • July 15, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
The price! ownCloud is free for the unsupported version, and I am able to run it on a Raspberry Pi at home. I also love that I can store my stuff without it being mined to try to sell me stuff (or worse).
What do you dislike?
The original developer of the software is no longer with the organization, and is now developing something called nextcloud, which I have not yet had an opportunity to play with much.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Upgrading/updating the software on the Pi can be a pain. On the Pi, it is sometimes (understandably) slow. Other than that, it's good stuff!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great for a little home cloud storage server. Give it a try!

What do you dislike?
It's a bit more expensive than other options.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Privacy of data. Backups of our onshore and nearshore data.

This is the best tool to sync files within any organization that you work for. It has made data and file sharing easier
What do you dislike?
I don’t dislike anything about using owncloud
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Owncloud has made accessing files and documents easier. It has allowed to sync files, made collaboration easier for the teams as you can access the files from any device. It also provides the ability to share files with external users by sending password-protected sharing links. You can also set expiration dates for these links.

Cloud in your pocket

  • June 28, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
Free edition, reliable, lot of plugins through the Marketplace, client available on any platform: Linux, Windows, Android, iOS. This means that you can access your files from everywhere, on any device. It allows you to setup your private file sharing infrastructure with encrypted storage answering to all security standards companies might require.
What do you dislike?
After the ownCloud - NextCloud divorce, some application disappeared from the new ownCloud Marketplace, yet available for NextCloud.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
ownCloud is a reliable file sharing infrastructure with a client-server architecture allowing to setup a complete private file sharing service with data encryption server side and avoid public ones like Google drive or Dropbox. This is specially interesting for companies bound specific data privacy policies.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
ownCloud is a reliable file sharing infrastructure with a client-server architecture allowing to setup a complete private file sharing service with data encryption server side and avoid public ones like Google drive or Dropbox. This is specially interesting for companies bound specific data privacy policies. I strongly recommend private file sharing infrastructure wherever privacy and confidentiality is key for the enterprise.
