Centralized firewall rule analysis has transformed daily troubleshooting and compliance reporting
What is our primary use case?
I have been using AlgoSec for five years in the same ExxonMobil client, and for daily operations, we utilize AlgoSec as a tool extensively.
We primarily use AlgoSec because we have a large number of firewalls and firewall rules. To fetch data, check rules, optimize, and ensure baseline compliance, we use AlgoSec. For example, if we want to troubleshoot any issues with a customer, we take inputs such as source IPs, destination IPs, and a port, and we open AlgoSec and search. This allows us to find the relevant firewall and access control policies, including rules and ACLs. We dig into the firewall, log in, and perform troubleshooting. AlgoSec is mainly useful for troubleshooting purposes, especially since we manage over 2,000 firewalls including FortiGate and ASA firewalls. Additionally, we use it for baseline compliance checks, and it helps us identify whether SNMP, syslog, and other compliance requirements are met. We also rely on AlgoSec to track any recent changes in firewalls and access historical records of changes.
Apart from troubleshooting and baseline compliance, we also use AlgoSec for performance reports, but that is about it. Other than this, we do not utilize AlgoSec for different purposes.
The ease of finding firewall rules has greatly impacted my daily work because we manage nearly 2,000 firewalls. During troubleshooting, it saves us a lot of time. Before AlgoSec, we had to ask the user for their location, and based on that, we would perform a traceroute and search for the LAN port switch connected to the firewall. We needed to log into the firewall to check things manually. However, since we started using AlgoSec five years ago, the troubleshooting process has become very easy and flexible, saving us a significant amount of time and reducing stress.
If we have an existing source and a new destination, instead of creating a new rule, we can search for the source in AlgoSec to find the corresponding firewall. Instead of adding a new rule, we can check in AlgoSec and realize we already have a source, and we just need to add a destination. This capability to fetch data from a central database management system has helped us reduce the number of ACLs we need to manage, and I really appreciate this aspect of AlgoSec.
What is most valuable?
The best features AlgoSec offers include various optimization capabilities and compliance checks.
I rely heavily on the compliance reporting that AlgoSec provides because we have many firewalls where the required compliance is often not met. We primarily use it for compliance reporting and change tracking because there are many instances where analysts make mistakes during changes. To track changes, we immediately log into AlgoSec and search for the source and destination IPs to identify the firewall and review the last changes made. Overall, we rely on change tracking as well as risk assessment and compliance reporting. If we notice that SNMP or syslog reports are not generated, we pursue baseline compliance and resolve those issues. The most valuable feature, in my opinion, is change tracking, which helps us manage potential production issues effectively.
AlgoSec has positively impacted our organization significantly in terms of security, compliance, and efficiency. When I compare before and after implementing AlgoSec, I note that we have around 2,000 firewalls. Before AlgoSec, we struggled to trace and identify issues, but with AlgoSec, we can now quickly locate and resolve firewall rules, which has enhanced our operational efficiency. Regarding compliance, we previously dealt with many manual reports for baseline compliance, which was cumbersome. Now, with AlgoSec, it generates automated reports that clearly show how many firewalls are compliant or not, leading to substantial improvements in performance, compliance, and overall efficiency.
Regarding specific metrics, I can say our baseline compliance checks used to involve up to 70 or 80 firewalls needing manual inspection. Since we started using AlgoSec, we have been able to reduce that number to about four or five in a month, effectively transitioning from a manual reporting system to a much more manageable single-digit compliance issue count.
What needs improvement?
I have noticed that while AlgoSec handles logging and reports well for FortiGate, which significantly aids troubleshooting via a centralized database, it would be highly beneficial if AlgoSec could offer similar capabilities for all vendors including Cisco FTD and Juniper. A central management system for troubleshooting akin to a FortiAnalyzer would be extremely advantageous for us.
AlgoSec is deployed on-premises in our organization, although it sometimes operates slowly. When performance issues arise, they increase the CPU and storage, and there are plans to migrate it to a private cloud soon, which is currently in progress.
AlgoSec is generally stable. However, it occasionally hangs, and during those times, the network management platform team restarts it. They explain that this happens due to high load conditions in AlgoSec.

Change monitoring has improved compliance and security but still needs better APIs and reporting
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for AlgoSec is as a firewall analyzer whereby I use it to detect any changes that are made to my firewalls or my network devices to see what changes are made.
When there are changes on AlgoSec, I get an alert about those changes, and I review those changes and specifically ask the people that make those changes for their approval or the change request that allowed them to apply those changes.
Coupled with those compliance checks, AlgoSec detects changes relating to various aspects, and I can review those changes to determine their acceptability.
What is most valuable?
The features that stand out to me the most in AlgoSec include a streamlined process for searching, allowing me to filter configurations quickly and understand what is happening in the network. I use AlgoSec every time I am reviewing an alert or events, and I need to check what permissions exist on the firewall. The positive impact of AlgoSec on my organization is that all changes are recorded and monitored, and any unauthorized user can be flagged based on reviews, helping mitigate internal threats.
AlgoSec has helped reduce response time significantly because I can easily check the platform for changes instead of manually liaising with stakeholders.
What needs improvement?
I think AlgoSec can be improved in that it requires analysts to fully understand the context of internal changes flagged to avoid unnecessary panic.
I find the interface and documentation of AlgoSec good enough, but I would appreciate an API integration for automated searches and data enrichment.
I have not explored AlgoSec's AI capabilities much, but I feel it could analyze firewall changes and might help with labeling system and user behaviors.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using AlgoSec since I started working, and I have been using AlgoSec for more than five years now.
What other advice do I have?
I think I have covered all that I use AlgoSec for, and to me, it is just a great product that helps me see whatever is going on in my environment.
Every organization should actually use AlgoSec because it helps oversee changes in their environment and ensures that nothing changes without approval.
AlgoSec is a good product overall that I would highly recommend for maintaining compliance and security. I gave this review a rating of seven out of ten because of challenges like API integration and the need for clearer reporting to distinguish between system actions and user actions.
I think I have mentioned all improvements needed for AlgoSec that concern me for now.
Automation has transformed firewall rule management and provides clear visibility for audits
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The best features that AlgoSec offers are the Traffic Simulation Query, visibility into the internal firewall policies, and automation of internal process flows for creating or changing rules. The Intelligent Policy Tuner is also a very important feature as it brings very high granularity to the view of internal traffic for each rule.
AlgoSec has had a positive impact on my organization as it helps bring visibility over the entire environment from a security standpoint, mainly on firewalls and switches. It provides very good visibility of rule cleanup, and besides this cleanup it can perform in the environment, it is also able to show performance improvements. In addition to providing a risk score for both hardening-related compliance and baseline compliance, as well as regulatory compliance, AlgoSec brings visibility, improvements, and a gain in agility for these reports, these views for audits, and even for internal organization and improvement research.
What needs improvement?
In integrations, particularly integrations related to APIs, mainly in FireFlow, an improvement that could be excellent for AlgoSec would be integration with various ITSM tools, as today it is a bit complex to configure this, requiring a higher level of knowledge in order to integrate any ITSM platform with AlgoSec to automate ticket creation, which could be improved.

I have been using AlgoSec for about five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
AlgoSec is stable and if it is properly sized during implementation, it is quite stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
AlgoSec has good scalability, and I have not had any problems with that.
How are customer service and support?
AlgoSec's customer support is divided by levels, so level one support gives us a basic, standard service related to the specific problem. If that problem is not resolved, it is escalated to a higher level, where they will assess the possibility of creating a hotfix to solve that problem, and in all the cases I have dealt with, they were resolved 100 percent of the time.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used Tufin, but it is not a tool that delivers the level of detail that AlgoSec delivers; it is simpler and a bit more complex to use as it does not deliver a good end-user experience.
What was our ROI?
I have seen return on investment through time savings. Cost reduction has also been achieved because time is money, and also fewer employees performing manual tasks. With AlgoSec's automation, I gain all of that.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing has been reasonable; they could be better, but since it does what it promises, it is fair.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
AlgoSec and Tufin are the main ones on the market. I did not consider other solutions and I am not interested in them because they are much less efficient.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others who are considering using AlgoSec is to keep in mind that it does not perform miracles, but if it is well configured, it can deliver good automation of internal processes related to creating firewall policies and help with the visibility of those policies, saving time and reducing effort.
Depending on the company, the customer may have many rules, more than 1,000 rules on 100 different firewalls, and managing that manually is very laborious. AlgoSec can consolidate all of that into a dashboard, where you save time. It performs the analysis itself and provides you the final report with all the risks and improvements that can be made on these firewalls, switches, or routers that are layer-three devices, so this gain and agility helps a lot. I would rate this solution a 9 out of 10.

Automation has transformed firewall governance and now speeds compliant security changes
What is our primary use case?
AlgoSec is used for network security policy management and firewall use governance. It provides visibility into our network security infrastructure, manages firewall policies, and ensures security changes are implemented in a control compliance manner.
One example involved a business application that needed connectivity between a new server environment and internal server services. Traditionally, this would have required multiple teams to manually review firewalls and assess risk, determining which changes are needed across different security responses. Using AlgoSec, we were able to analyze the application connectivity requirements, identify the firewall rules changes needed, and evaluate the potential security impact before implementation. The platform provides visibility into the traffic flow, highlighting any policies, conflicts, and compliance concerns. As a result, we implemented the change more quickly and with greater confidence.
While we initially adopted AlgoSec primarily for firewall policy management and compliance, we found that the visibility into application networking and connectivity was an unexpected but very valuable benefit. As our governance grows more complex with multiple firewalls, network segments, and cloud-based resources, it becomes increasingly difficult to understand how applications communicate across the infrastructure. AlgoSec helps us map those communication paths and understand the potential impact of security changes before implementing them. This reduces the risk of accidents, disruptions, and impacts on business-critical applications.
What is most valuable?
Firewall policy management is probably the most valuable feature. AlgoSec provides centralized visibility into firewall rules across many multiple vendors and environments, making it easier to manage, review, and maintain security policy consistency. The automated change management capability is also highly valuable. The platform helps analyze requested firewall changes, assess risk, identify policy violations, and streamline the approval process. This reduces manual effort, speeds up implementation, and minimizes the potential for configuration errors.
In addition to the core firewall management and policy optimization capabilities, reporting, analyzing, and integration features deserve special mention. From a reporting perspective, AlgoSec provides useful dashboards and compliance reports that help both the technical team and management understand the current state of the security environment. The capability to generate audit-ready reports saves a significant amount of time during compliance and internal assessments. Instead of manually collecting information from multiple vendors and firewalls, it greatly improves the overall data availability towards the platform.
AlgoSec has had a very positive impact on our organization, particularly in the areas of operational efficiency, security governance, compliance, and risk reduction. One of the most noticeable benefits has been the improvement in firewall change management. Before AlgoSec, many policy changes required significant manual effort and coordination for validation across multiple teams. With AlgoSec, automation and visibility have significantly streamlined the implementation process and minimized the risk of configuration errors. We have also seen improvements in operational efficiency. Tasks that previously took hours of manual reviews can now be completed faster as the platform provides clear recommendations. The impact analysis allows administrative and security network teams to focus more on strategic initiatives rather than routine work.
One of the most measurable improvements has been in firewall change management. We have seen the time required to process the implementation and firewall rules changes decrease by roughly 40 to 60 percent. Tasks that previously took several hours for manual review, risk assessment, and validation can now be completed much faster through automation and workflow support. We have also seen a reduction in configuration-related errors. By validating changes before implementation and identifying customized policy conflicts, AlgoSec has helped reduce firewall mistakes by an estimated 25 to 30 percent. This has also resulted in fewer reliability incidents, with less time spent on troubleshooting and rollback activities.
What needs improvement?
While our experience with AlgoSec has been very positive, there are several areas where it can be improved. One area is the user interface and overall user experience. While the platform proves powerful and beneficial for our IT and security team, its users can face a learning curve, especially when negotiating complex policies from a governance perspective. The product would benefit from becoming easier to learn more quickly. Another area for improvement is reporting customization. The existing reports are useful and offer flexibility in dashboard creation and report formatting, but more granular reporting would be easier to tailor the output for different audiences.
From the integration standpoint, AlgoSec supports a wide range of firewalls, security platforms, and IT service management tools. However, as organizations continue adopting cloud-native technology and DevOps practices, deeper integration into cloud security platforms, container environments, and infrastructure as code tools would be beneficial. This would help security policy management keep pace with modern application deployment models. The onboarding and implementation process can also be even easier. While the platform provides strong capabilities, the environment can require significant initial configuration of policy tuning. More guidance and automated recommendations would help customers achieve value more quickly.

The support team is knowledgeable and responsive, able to assist with complex configuration, integration, and policy-related questions. In most cases, we raise customer tickets in the support system. We have received timely acknowledgments and structured follow-ups for standard issues, product guidance, and resolution tips rather than merely relying on high-level documentation references. For more complex scenarios, particularly around large-scale deployments or multiple firewall vendors, resolution can take longer, but issues are typically escalated appropriately for specialization. In those cases, we found that a high level of technical expertise is usually involved.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before implementing AlgoSec, we primarily used a combination of native firewall management tools, manual processes, spreadsheets, and internally deployed workflows to manage firewall policies and compliance activities. While those approaches work for a smaller environment, they become increasingly difficult to maintain as our infrastructure grows more complex. We moved to AlgoSec due to the need for greater visibility, automation, and consistency across the security policy management process. We spent a significant amount of time manually reviewing firewall changes, validating compliance requirements, and assessing the impact of policy modifications. Those processes were not only time-consuming but also introduced the potential for human error.
How was the initial setup?
My experience with AlgoSec's pricing, setup cost, and licensing has been positive. It defines an enterprise-grade solution, so the investment is not insignificant, but we feel the value justifies the cost in terms of operational security improvements it delivers. The licensing model is reliable and straightforward, aligning with our implementation for the size and complexity of our environment. We were able to license the platform based on our network security infrastructure, which scales as our requirements evolve. From a budgeting perspective, the costs are manageable, which makes planning easier. The setup requires both time and resources because AlgoSec integrates with firewalls, security policies, and compliance governance, but its implementation process is well-managed and allows other vendors and multiple users to achieve quick operational readiness.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a clear return on investment from AlgoSec, primarily in terms of time saving, operational efficiency, and improved security governance, rather than a direct headcount reduction. The most significant benefits include a reduction in firewall change processing time. Since implementing AlgoSec, we have seen changes to request implementation cycles improve by approximately 40 to 60 percent. What previously required extensive manual reviews across multiple teams can now be completed much faster with automated analysis and workflow support.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Firewall change management has become faster and daily rule audits now reduce configuration risks
What is our primary use case?
A good example of how I use AlgoSec in my daily work is firewall change management. When a new application requires connectivity, AlgoSec helps me identify the affected firewall, analyze the required rule changes, and validate the security impact before implementation. This saves time, improves visibility, and reduces the risk of configuration errors.
Another use case for AlgoSec is firewall rule cleanup and audits. AlgoSec helps me identify unused or risky rules and understand their impact before removal. It is also very helpful for troubleshooting because it provides visibility into traffic paths and shows which firewall policies are affecting connectivity.
What is most valuable?
The best features AlgoSec offers for us are firewall policy management, change analysis, compliance reporting, and network visibility. AlgoSec helps us understand the impact of rule changes, automate compliance checks, identify risk or unused rules, and gain better visibility into application connectivity across the network.
AlgoSec saves us a lot of time. AlgoSec helps us analyze firewall changes, troubleshoot connectivity issues faster, and identify risky or non-compliant rules before they become a problem. This reduces manual effort and improves accuracy.
Another feature I find valuable is the application connectivity and traffic flow visibility, which makes troubleshooting much faster. The visibility and change impact analysis stands out as particularly valuable. Being able to understand how a proposed firewall change will affect the environment before implementing it has helped reduce risk and avoid configuration mistakes.
What needs improvement?
If I could improve anything, it would be more customizable dashboards and reporting. The current feature set is very strong and meets our needs well.
As for future enhancements, I would like to see more automation around policy optimization and more customizable reporting options. More automation and more flexible reporting would be welcome, but overall the current feature set meets our requirements well. I do not have any major feature gaps to mention at this time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using AlgoSec for approximately one year.
What other advice do I have?
AlgoSec has helped us save time on firewall change management, troubleshooting, and compliance activities. It has improved visibility, reduced manual effort, and helped us identify potential issues before changes are implemented. Overall, we have seen faster operations and fewer configuration-related issues.
Another positive outcome has been better visibility into our security environment, which helps us identify risky, unused, or overly permissive rules before they become a problem. While I do not track exact metrics, we have definitely seen time savings, faster troubleshooting, improved change management, and fewer configuration-related issues compared to manual processes.
Troubleshooting firewall-related connectivity issues has become significantly faster based on our experience. What used to take anywhere from one to two hours of manually checking firewall rules and network paths can often be narrowed down in fifteen to thirty minutes.

Firewall policy changes have become faster and now streamline ticket creation and optimization
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for AlgoSec is firewall ticket creation for implementing new firewall rules.
For example, if I want to create a new firewall rule in firewalls such as Palo Alto or Check Point, I need to enter the information, details, source IP, destination IP, and port into AlgoSec. Then, AlgoSec will create a ticket, and it will be assigned to the firewall resource who will implement the change.
AlgoSec's workflow allows it to check the existing firewall rules and identify the firewalls where the rules need to be implemented.
What is most valuable?
The best features AlgoSec offers are its ease of use and the simplicity of ticket creation, and AlgoSec helps to identify the firewalls where the rules need to be configured.
When I refer to ease of use, I mainly mean the speed at which we can make changes, as it is very quick.
