What do you like best about the product?
. And especially for young developers who are used to eclipse IDP are more comfortable as the interface is quite similar.
What do you dislike about the product?
Few mainframe functions are limitations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before compilation error are displayed or suggested.

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about microfocus visual cobol is it's integration with various RDBMS and ability to get deployed on various OS which helps to reuse the cobol code efficiently.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes I have faced performance issues with microfocus when I was trying to run integrated cobol applications and system was taking the maximum CPU usage. This may impact efficiency of the application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The most important problem which is getting solved using microfocus is the ability to integrate the cobol code on various OS which is helping to modernize the Mainframe.
This helps customers to modernize the mainframe and take advantage of cloud and various new technologies without taking significant cost.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking to modernize your mainframe application, microfocus visual cobol is your go to product

easy to learn, business oriented capabilities, universality, easy to read, modify and debug.
What do you dislike about the product?
the time required to compile a cobol program might be greater than with a machine oriented programming language.

Writing logical formulas in complex business calculations

As various cloud providers, provide different platforms for Cobol based application which is very good for rapid deployment and modernization. Most Cobol systems can quickly re deployed to a virtual or cloud platform with no change.

What do you like best about the product?
Multiply program could be updated simultaneously. Plus testing and compilation is easy in it
What do you dislike about the product?
It's slightly slow than actual mainframe. Sql editer is really bad and takes time to sync with UAT/prod regions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainly banking and insurance software. Upgrades and build new features plus new products.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a good software, however it's need upgrades and better remote desktops

What do you like best about the product?
MF cobol provides various easy to develop templates and tools which is very helpful for both senior and new cobol developers. Along with legacy development and changes it can also be used to integrate with latest tech stack like .net or Java
What do you dislike about the product?
Deployment of integrated solutions takes longer time in test region. Also when CI CD pipelines run for .net, Actual Mainframe cobol logs are not accurate. Needs changes to easy deployment of API services and also log capture.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainframe modernization of legacy code to latest .net or java. Also migrate some applications data to cloud using API framework

Best use for legacy modernization where cobol code needs Interaction with other latest web applications having .net or java or cloud.

What do you like best about the product?
It is very easy to Debug and edit the Cobol codes. You can easilydevelop your cobol changes in Visual studio. You can run it on windows, unix or linux basically you can say the non mainframe operating system.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think there is nothing which I dislike about this application. It is very easy to make changes in micro focus cobol programs with the help of visual studio. Please start using it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The coding pattern is little different in micro focus Cobol and you can easily use VSAM as a database in it. The codes can be easily compiled and it is very easy to find the errors in it. Debugging makes the life of developer very easy.

Great all in one tool for developing cobol, c, and where relevant scripts and jcl.
What do you dislike about the product?
High pricing per named developer. Different pricing strategy outside of US and UK. ie more expansive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Code review, code optimization, platform migration (including cloud and containerization)

What do you like best about the product?
Microfocus COBOL is same as legacy COBOL but it does provide an IDE environment which is easy to work with.

It's an English like language that makes it very easy to understand and still widely used with mainframes system using microfocus with Unix servers
What do you dislike about the product?
No support to object oriented programming, it's only a structured language.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a very simple and strong language that is still widely used with mainframes which supports 80 percent of banks and insurance till date.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Microfocus is definitely an alternate to systems which are not that portable on distributed applications
