Dropbox Smart Sync Makes File Storage Feel Effortless

  • May 05, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Dropbox is how it just stays out of the way it feels like a regular folder on my computer rather than a bulky app i have to manage. Its "Smart Sync" is a total lifesaver because it can see all my files without them actually taking up space on my hard drive until i click them. Plus, the version history is a huge safety net for me for "oh no" moments when i accidentally delete something or mess up a draft. It’s basically the most reliable way to keep everything synced across my phone and laptop without having to think about it.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main frustration with Dropbox is that the free version is basically useless since it only gives us 2 GB, which fills up almost instantly. It’s also annoying that there’s no middle ground for pricing; once i run out of space, they force us to jump straight to a massive 2 TB plan that costs a decent amount every month. On top of that, the app has started feeling a bit bloated with extra features like screen recording and AI tools that most people didn't ask for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dropbox basically solves the massive headache of having my files scattered across different devices or worrying about losing work if my or teammate laptop crashes. By keeping everything in a central hub that updates in real-time, it saves me from the "version hell" of emailing myself documents or carrying around USB drives. For me, the biggest benefit is the peace of mind; I can start a project at my desk and pull it up on my phone later knowing it’s exactly where I left off. It also acts as an automatic backup, so even if I accidentally delete a file or my hardware fails, I know my work is safe and recoverable without any extra effort.
