Server Core is awesome and administering with PowerShell is a pleasure. The investment in learning the command line pays off rather quickly and this version of Windows is very fast with only a minimal set of services installed and no UI bloat. This AMI should be in the Quick Start section!

Excellent lightweight VM image for smaller instances.
Although you'll need to administer Windows entirely from the console, this is an excellent light-weight VM image for use in smaller instances: it makes much better use of precious resources. Startup times and responsiveness are substantially improved. This specific release contains an excellent mix of recent .NET framework and core components.
