How do I change the email address that's associated with my AWS account?

Last updated: 2021-11-12

I want to change the email address that's associated with the AWS account root user of my account.

Resolution

You can change the AWS account root user email associated with an AWS account only when you sign in as that user.
Note: Changing the AWS account root user email requires account activation. Your services can take up to 24 hours to fully activate after changing the root user email.

If you sign in to an account as an IAM user and you want to change your user name, contact your account administrator and ask them to follow the instructions at Renaming an IAM user.

Important: If your AWS account and Amazon.com retail account share the same login information, then updating the email address for one of the accounts changes information for the other account.

To update your root email address, do the following:

  1. Log in to the AWS Billing and Cost Management Console for the AWS account that you want to update.
  2. Choose My Account.
  3. Choose Edit next to Account Settings.
  4. Update your email address associated to your account.
Note: You can't use an email address that is already in use on another Amazon.com or AWS account.
  5. Choose Save changes.

To update contact information, account name, or root user password associated with an AWS account in the Billing and Cost Management console, see Managing an AWS account.
