The AWS CloudFormer template creation tool fails to launch with the error "No default VPC found for this user."

If you choose DefaultVPC for the target VPC when launching a stack, but you don't have a default VPC, you'll receive the error "No default VPC found for this user."

To resolve this, do one of the following:

  • Create a new default VPC.
  • Create a new VPC along with your stack using CloudFormer.
  • Launch your new stack into an existing VPC on your account.

Create a new default VPC

For instructions, see Creating a Default VPC.

Create a new VPC using the CloudFormer template

  1. From the AWS CloudFormation console, choose Create Stack.
  2. Select the Choose a template drop-down menu, choose CloudFormer, and then choose Next.
  3. In Parameters, type your Password and Username, choose the VPCSelection drop-down menu, choose CreateNewVPC, and then choose Next.
  4. In the Options page, choose Next.
  5. In the Review page, select the acknowledge check box, and then choose Create.

Launch CloudFormer into your existing VPC

Use the CloudFormer-Existing-VPC.json custom template to launch CloudFormer into your existing VPC.

Note: You must choose a public subnet.
