I've linked a member account to a master account. Why does the member account still need an associated payment method?

A valid payment method is required for linked accounts for a few reasons:

  • A valid payment method is required to activate the services on every account. This requirement applies to all accounts, regardless of whether they're in an organization or not.
  • You can unlink your account at any time. When an account is removed from an organization, charges generated from that moment forward are billed to that account's default payment method.
  • Charges through the AWS Marketplace are always billed to the payment method associated with the account subscribing to the product. For more information about how AWS Marketplace is billed, see Paying for AWS Marketplace Products.
