When I view tagged resources on my cost allocation report, the hourly rate is different than the listed rate on the AWS pricing page. Why?

This occurs because the calculation for tagged resources happens in three phases:

  1. The hourly cost for that resource type is multiplied by the total number of hours.
  2. The cost is rounded up or down.
  3. The rounded cost is divided among the tags, based on how much usage the individual resource had.

The timing of the rounding can lead to effective hourly rates displaying differently on the cost allocation report, though your total charge for that resource type will display correctly on your final bill.
