Gareth shows you how to
create a monthly cost budget
using AWS Budgets

How do I use AWS Budgets to alert me if I exceed, or am forecasted to exceed, my budgeted monthly amount for AWS resources?

To create an AWS Budget that will notify you by email if you're forecasted to exceed a particular monthly cost threshold, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Billing and Cost Management dashboard.
  2. From the left navigation pane, choose Budgets.
  3. Choose Create budget.
  4. Fill out the following fields:
    For Name, enter a name that's meaningful for you.
    For Select cost or usage, choose Cost.
    For Period, choose Monthly.
    For Notify me when, choose forecasted, greater than, and enter 100.
    For Email contacts, enter one or more email addresses you'd like to be notified at should your forecasted usage exceed your budget.
    You can leave all other fields as their defaults.
  5. Choose Create.

You can adjust these settings to be notified at multiple thresholds: for example, once when you're forecasted to spend 75% of your total budget, and again if you're forecasted to exceed it. You can also refine your notifications to only include particular services (for example, EC2, S3, or a combination of services). For more information, see Managing Your Costs with Budgets.
