Why can't I purchase an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) No Upfront Reserved Instance?

Reserved Instances are billed on a monthly basis, can't be canceled, and have long contracts (1-year or 3-year terms). To minimize billing risk for new customers, AWS restricts the ability for new accounts to purchase No Upfront Reserved Instances.

New accounts can purchase EC2 Partial Upfront or All Upfront Reserved Instances right away. For more information on EC2 Reserved Instance pricing, see Amazon EC2 Pricing.

After an account builds a successful billing history with AWS, the restriction on purchasing No Upfront Reserved Instances is lifted automatically.

Note: AWS Support can't update these limits manually or add No Upfront Reserved Instances to your account on your behalf.
