What is Amazon Glacier provisioned capacity, and how do I use it?

Amazon Glacier provisioned capacity units allow you to pay a fixed up-front fee to expedite retrievals from Amazon Glacier vaults for a given month. You can purchase multiple provisioned capacity units per month to increase the amount of data you can retrieve.

You should only purchase provisioned capacity units if you have a significant amount of data stored in Amazon Glacier and you plan to retrieve large amounts of data from Amazon Glacier in a given month, or if you plan to make frequent retrievals in a given month. Most use cases are served by using Amazon Glacier's on-demand retrievals.
