Nitish shows you how to
enable enhanced networking
for EC2 instances running Windows

I am running an Amazon EC2 instance of Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, or 2012 R2 and want to take advantage of improved networking enhancements.

When running Windows Server in an Amazon EC2 virtualized environment, the guest operating system is provided a virtual network interface card (NIC). For supported instance types, you can use enhanced networking to achieve higher bandwidth, higher packet-per-second performance, and consistently lower latencies. Enhanced networking is supported on Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2. For instance types that do not support enhanced networking, you can achieve greater stability by upgrading to the latest AWS PV networking drivers.

Follow the instructions in Enabling Enhanced Networking with the Intel 82599 VF Interface on Windows to install the Intel driver, stop the instance, and then enable enhanced networking.

Follow the instructions in Upgrade Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2 Instances (AWS PV Driver Upgrade).

Note: if your instance is a domain controller, follow these additional steps to Download and Install the AWS PV Driver.
