I’ve finished transferring data to or from a Snowball appliance, and I’m ready to ship the device back to AWS. How do I make sure that the Snowball appliance reaches AWS? 

To prepare a Snowball appliance for shipping to AWS, complete the following steps:

  1. Turn off the Snowball appliance by pressing the power button.
  2. When the Snowball appliance is turned off, unplug the Snowball appliance.
  3. Make sure that the E-Ink display on the Snowball shows an AWS address. The E-Ink display should automatically update with an AWS address after the device is unplugged.
    Note: If the E-Ink display still shows your address, plug the Snowball back into power, turn it on, and wait 10 minutes before powering it off and preparing it for return again.
  4. Stow the cables that came with the Snowball appliance in the cable caddy, and close both panels. You’ll hear a click when a panel is securely closed.

If the Snowball appliance still displays your address after following the above steps, contact AWS Support.

After you hand off the device to your region’s carrier, and the carrier processes the shipment, you can monitor the status of your job (including a tracking number for the return shipment) in the Snowball console.
