How do I troubleshoot errors with Elastic IP addresses in Amazon VPC?

Last updated: 2022-04-18

I received an "InvalidAddress.NotFound" or "AddressLimitExceeded" error when working with Elastic IP addresses in Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC). How can I troubleshoot this?

Short description

Important: For information about allocating, describing, tagging, associating, disassociating, releasing, or recovering Elastic IP addresses, see Work with Elastic IP Addresses.

If you receive an InvalidAddress.NotFound error when trying to recover an Elastic IP address, the Elastic IP address can’t be recovered.

If you receive an AddressLimitExceeded error when launching a new Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instance or allocating an Elastic IP address, you’ve exceeded the limit for Elastic IP addresses for each AWS Region.

InvalidAddress.NotFound errors

For reasons why an Elastic IP address might not be recoverable, see Recover an Elastic IP address.

AddressLimitExceeded errors

Use the Service quotas console to request a limit increase for Elastic IP addresses. Access the page for EC2-VPC Elastic IPs, and then choose Request quota increase.
