How can I resolve a custom domain name from resources in my VPC without modifying the DHCP options set?

I want to resolve a custom domain name from resources in my Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) without modifying the DHCP options set. How can I do this?

Resolution

Configure a private hosted zone to specify how Amazon Route 53 responds to DNS queries for a domain and its subdomains within your VPCs:

  1. Create a private hosted zone for your domain name, and then attach it to the required VPC.
  2. Create relevant records in the private hosted zone to specify how Route 53 responds to DNS queries from resources in the attached VPC.
  3. (Optional) Associate the private hosted zone to VPCs in other AWS accounts.
