I want to delete a user or group in Amazon WorkMail. How can I do this?

Resolution

You can delete users or groups using AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI) for WorkMail.

Note: Deleting a user or group is permanent.

To delete a user

The following process deletes a user from WorkMail and the associated directory.

1.    Open the Amazon WorkMail console.

2.    From the Alias column, choose the Organization that you want to delete users from.

3.    Choose Organization settings from the navigation pane, and then copy the Organization ID.

4.    Choose Users from the navigation pane. Verify that the Status of the WorkMail user account that you want to delete is Disabled.

5.    Open a command prompt or terminal. Run the following command to see a list of users in your WorkMail Organization:

Note: Replace m-OrganizationID with the Organization ID from step 3.

aws workmail list-users --organization-id m-OrganizationID

6.    Copy the ID of the user you want to delete.

7.    Run the following command, replacing these segments:

  • m-OrganizationID: Replace with the Organization ID from step 3.
  • UserID: Replace with the ID from step 6.
aws workmail delete-user --organization-id m-OrganizationID --user-id UserID

The user is now deleted.

To delete a group

The following process deletes a group from WorkMail and the associated directory.

1.    Open the Amazon WorkMail console.

2.    From the Alias column, choose the Organization that you want to delete a group from.

3.    Choose Organization settings from the navigation pane, and then copy the Organization ID.

4.    Choose Groups from the navigation pane. Verify that the Status of the WorkMail group that you want to delete is Disabled.

5.    Open a command prompt or terminal. Run the following command to see a list of users in your WorkMail Organization:

Note: Replace m-OrganizationID with the Organization ID from step 3.

aws workmail list-groups --organization-id m-OrganizationID

6.    Copy the ID of the group you want to delete.

7.    Run the following command, replacing these segments:

  • m-OrganizationID: Replace with the Organization ID from step 3.
  • GroupID: Replace with the ID from step 6.
