Emergencies and national disasters can strike at any moment. And with the change in how people communicate – from the internet to cell phones and more – emergency response systems need to be modernized to meet the immediate urgent needs of constituents. Amazon Web Services (AWS) supports many disaster recovery architectures, from those built for smaller workloads to enterprise solutions that enable rapid failover at scale. AWS provides a set of cloud-based disaster recovery services that enable fast recovery of your IT infrastructure and data.

State and local governments are using AWS to better communicate with public officials and constituents during many potential disasters, whether they are monitoring flood plains for evacuation during hurricane season with Stormsense or quickly supporting residents displaced by fires in Sonoma County.

And with the change in how people communicate – from the internet to cell phones and more – emergency response systems need to be modernized to meet the immediate urgent needs of constituents. AWS Partner Network (APN) partner NGA 911 created a solution with the state of California to modernize their outdated 9-1-1 system with the next generation of 9-1-1. NGA911 brings 9-1-1 services into the digital and mobile age with increased location accuracy that expedites response and speeds recovery with infrastructure that can withstand natural and human-caused disasters.

“By leveraging the AWS Cloud, NGA 911 provides emergency personnel access to critical data as the situation unfolds,” said Kim Majerus, state and local government leader, AWS. “The NGA 911 solution marries robust call center capabilities with the power of cloud technology by delivering critical information in a secure and highly available environment to provide the highest level service to constituents.”

NGA 911 created a complete, customizable and reliable next-generation 9-1-1 solution that brings secure, affordable 911 cloud services, which will be available throughout the state of California. AWS provides the cloud services used by NGA 911 to innovate and deliver the future of 9-1-1. Check out this episode of “Worldwide Business with Kathy Ireland,” to hear more about this solution.

“In a smartphone-connected world, it’s essential that our public safety capabilities keep pace with the technology people are using every day,” said California Office of Emergency Services Director Mark Ghilarducci. “Today marks a significant milestone in updating our 911 network to better support dispatchers, and emergency responders, and ultimately save lives.”
