“AWS is a global provider, which has expanded enormously and now it is number one, ready to stay in the market for a long time.”

Filipe Gonçalves
Co-founder and CTO, Jumpseller

Jumpseller is one of the leading e-commerce platforms among small and medium-sized companies in Latin America. The firm, with offices in Portugal and Chile, has more than 10,000 clients around the world whom it helps to design, manage and operate their online stores in a simple and fast way, with just a few clicks. For entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses, starting an online store can represent a great challenge. Thanks to the wide range of services available on the Jumpseller platform, such as custom templates, the integration of different payment gateways, omnichannel sales options (online store, Facebook, Google Commerce, Instagram and marketplaces), or product recommendations, those e-commerce can take advantage of the next level in customer experience. In addition, the owners of these online stores generally have few resources to dedicate to their sales website, but the Artificial Intelligence capabilities that Jumpseller has deployed allow to automatically configure the main page with the best offers, create associated product packages or carry out cross-selling, increasing both the product proposal for the end user and the incomes for these online stores, as well as leaving those managers of the e-commerce sites to focus on what really matters: the business.

Close to the customer

Jumpseller's idiomatic proximity to Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries made the company make the leap to Latin America soon, where it has found its expansion space, with Chile as its main market. This closeness with the client allows Jumpseller to better understand the idiosyncrasies of the countries and their technical needs. Offering customers a fast sales experience has never been as much important as nowadays for an online store anywhere in the world, so having a low latency service was equally vital for Jumpseller. “A lot of the technology we use needs to be deployed close to our customers. The low latency that Amazon Web Services can offer us is fundamental, especially in Latin America ”, explains Filipe Gonçalves, co-founder and CTO of Jumspeller. And this capillarity was one of the reasons that led the company to select AWS as its technology platform since it was born in 2010. But it was not the only one: “AWS is a global provider, which has expanded enormously and now it is number one, ready to stay in the market for a long time ”. In parallel, online shopping has become a common method of consumption, skyrocketing in recent times, and phenomena such as Black Friday are becoming more and more popular. These circumstances require online stores to be prepared to face large volumes of requests at specific times and the elasticity that AWS offers allows online stores that have trusted Jumpseller to have their website running 24x7, with total security and guarantees. "All the auto-scaling features makes it possible to scale the infrastructure during the day to optimize costs and to heavily scale up in special sales events like the Black Friday and Cyber Monday to handle the traffic increase”, added Gonçalves.

Intelligent innovation to grow

Currently, most of the data handled by Jumpseller is distributed in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) containers and the Amazon S3 object storage service, but the company is migrating them and combining their capabilities with Amazon RedShift, a storage service in the cloud, to accelerate the analysis of large volumes of data. Jumpseller is also taking advantage of the analytics and artificial intelligence potential provided by Amazon Kinesis or AWS Sagemaker to generate new products for their customers. With the incorporation of these Artificial Intelligence functionalities and faster analysis services, Jumpseller offers its online stores different options for product recommendation. Thus, the analysis of the information provided by the buyers and of the words that describe the products at sale facilitates the automatic creation of recommendations for users or the suggestion of products that are bought together. In addition, the combination of AWS RedShift and capabilities such as AWS Forecast will also allow online store owners to study sales forecasts in an agile way with a dashboard that displays all this information in an integrated way. Firmly committed to the development of its platform, Jumpseller prefers to use managed services “instead of having to handle the setup, maintenance and monitoring of servers, so we make heavy use of managed services such as AWS ECS for containers, AWS RDS to manage the databases, and AWS Beanstalk to easily deploy micro-service”. Only that way it can be one of the fastest-growing businesess of its sector.
