"We calculate our risks, but they're still risks. Our company strives to be experimental. We are constantly thinking about our outcomes, and if we're not hitting them, it's a matter of just re-orienting. It's not about taking a risk that's so big you're going to put the company, team, or a product at risk, but it's really about taking the kind of risk that you can learn from and then build upon going forward."
A Conversation with Lyndsay Pearson, VP of Franchise Creative for The Sims at EA
"It's about making better experiences for everyone, creating a better place to play, a better place to be, and just a better mirror of the world in as many ways as we can. It's powerful and just cool that we can be a part of changing reality by embedding diversity and inclusion into a game. The Sims is bigger than a game. And we take that seriously.”
By migrating its linear playout to AWS, Discovery realized substantial benefits across four areas of value.
The global media industry has become increasingly dynamic. In this environment, media companies like Discovery must scale and adapt quickly and seamlessly when launching new channels, entering new markets, or acquiring other media properties.
In 2016, Discovery partnered with AWS to move its global linear playout infrastructure to the cloud to help drive agility and reduce costs.
A conversation with Dr. Tarika Barrett, CEO, Girls Who Code
“By failing to address the growing gender gap in tech, we’re failing to prepare our girls for the jobs of the future.” Dr. Tarika Barrett, CEO of Girls Who Code, joins Enterprise Strategist Miriam McLemore to discuss closing the gender and equality gap in IT, including making technology clubs available to girls and rethinking the recruitment and hiring process.
A conversation with Volkswagen’s Nihar Patel, Executive Vice President for New Business Development, and Frank Goeller, Head of Digital Production
The Volkswagen Group manufactures 11 million cars a year and brings 200 million parts a day into its factories—a massive scale at which to operate a global supply chain which does not have processes and systems that are standardized across the network. Volkswagen is working with AWS to move its 124 factory sites to a single architecture, the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud, which will bring huge efficiencies to its automotive manufacturing and logistics processes. But the program requires enormous changes to systems, processes, and jobs.
In this conversation, Volkswagen’s Nihar Patel, executive vice president for new business development, and Frank Goeller, head of digital production, talk about how they are redesigning technology and processes, scaling them up across the network, and driving cost efficiencies. They describe how they are motivating employees to contribute by training and investing in them, and communicating what the future will look like. AWS’s Douglas Bellin, business development executive for Industrie 4.0 & Smart Factory, weighs in to explain how AWS is helping Volkswagen scale their technology across 124 plants.
A conversation with Deirdre Hanford, Chief Security Officer, Synopsys
Fifty-two percent of manufacturers have seen a “significant increase” in cyber fraud during the pandemic, with the two most common attacks being ransomware and electronic payment fraud, according to a report from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Deirdre Hanford, Chief Security Officer at Synopsys, a leader in electronic design automation (EDA), semiconductor IP and application security testing tools and service, and David Pellerin, Head of Worldwide Business Development for Semiconductors at AWS, sat down with the AWS Industrial Insights team to discuss the security challenges in today’s supply chains. Examining the issue from the perspective of the semiconductor industry, they explain how to strengthen security throughout the supply chain by inspecting current security exposure, monitoring users accessing the network, and leveraging the cloud.
