I want to change the email address that's associated with the root user of my AWS account.
Resolution
You can change the AWS account root user email that's associated with an account only after you sign in as that user.
If you sign in as an AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) user and you want to change your username, then contact your account administrator. Ask your account administrator to follow the instructions for renaming an IAM user.
Important: If your Amazon.com retail and AWS accounts share the same login information, then updating the email address for one account also changes the other account.
To update your root email address, complete the following steps:
- Log in as a root user to the Billing and Cost Management console for the account that you want to update.
If you're already logged in to the console and don't see your account information, then select your account ID, and then choose Account from the dropdown list.
- Next to Account Settings, choose Edit.
Note: If you aren't logged in as a root user, then you can't see the Edit option.
- For your email address, choose Edit.
Note: You can't use an email address that's already in use on another Amazon.com or AWS account.
- Enter the code that you receive, and then choose Save changes. The code might take a few minutes to arrive. Check your email and spam folder for the verification code email.
To update the account name or root user password that's associated with an account, see Managing an AWS account.
