Blackboard's Chief Product Officer Tim Tomlinson on the Pivot Power of AWS

2021

Since 2016, Blackboard, an international leader in educational technology (EdTech), has closed 27 on-premises data centers while migrating to Amazon Web Services (AWS). In March of 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it saw a 3600 percent increase in multinational usage of its Blackboard Collaborate virtual classroom solution. Being in the cloud prepared Blackboard for the massive challenge of rapidly responding to the global shift to online learning among its 150 million users in over 80 countries. In this presentation, Tim Tomlinson, Blackboard’s chief product officer, discusses how actively engaging with AWS helped Blackboard successfully navigate that period of growth. Using AWS solutions—such as analytics, databases, microservices, and serverless computing—Blackboard continues to innovate and create value at the intersection of education and technology.
