AWS re:Invent 2018: Fender Uses AWS to Bring Music to More Customers

Fender went all in on AWS to better engage with customers and gain supply-chain efficiencies. Fender, made famous by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, is the world's largest maker of stringed instruments by revenue.

Fender runs its Fender Play, Fender Tune, and Fender Tone apps on AWS, which help customers learn to play guitar, tune their instruments, and control digital amplifiers.

The company uses AWS services including AWS Lambda, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon API Gateway to store and deliver more than 700 TB of video and more than 4.9 million lessons to customers. The company also uses IoT on AWS to monitor factory conditions and Amazon SageMaker to choose the best wood to use in its guitars. Ethan Kaplan, chief product officer at Fender, spoke at re:Invent 2018.

    Formula 1® on AWS

Formula 1 (F1), a global sports and entertainment spectacle, offers modern apps, games, and experiences to directly engage with its fans. But these products operated in silos with little near real-time (NRT) integration, so it was difficult for F1 to understand its fans and create great customer experiences. To unlock the full potential of its global fan base, F1 chose to build a technical infrastructure using tools from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Salesforce, an AWS Partner.

    PGA TOUR on AWS

The PGA TOUR introduced Win, Cut Probability, a novel ML-powered analytics model that provides real-time insights into the likelihood of outcomes during tournaments. Powered by AWS, advanced data analytics, cloud infrastructure, and serverless services, the Win, Cut Probability model measures a player’s chances of advancing in and winning a tournament. Using Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) with AWS Fargate to run thousands of simulations and process nearly four billion records, the PGA TOUR can take advantage AWS’s elasticity, run their model quickly and scale as needed, while offloading the operational overhead of infrastructure management to AWS.
