Halo Health Puts Its AWS-Powered Communication Platform in the Hands of Care Providers

2020

Industry Challenge

Unifying time-sensitive clinical communication channels and providing instant messages, alerts, and critical results to the right person, role, or team to facilitate quick, easy communication and coordination among care providers throughout a health system and community are easier said than done. To scale to address this challenge, Halo Health turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Halo Health's Solution

To support the ultimate goal of providing accelerated patient care while saving health system dollars, Halo Health created its clinical communication and collaboration platform, a cloud-based mobile platform that streamlines and unifies communication among health system team members through shared or personal mobile devices. A nurse who starts a shift, for example, picks up a mobile device loaded with Halo Health’s app, signs in, and then uses the device to receive care alerts and critical results and to communicate in real time with on-call providers inside and outside the hospital. Halo Health’s platform can be customized at multiple stages along the implementation journey, from device selection to integrations with other clinical systems, such as the electronic health record, driving modernization of a health system’s mission-critical mobile clinical ecosystem.

Benefits of Using AWS

An AWS customer since 2015, Halo Health’s platform handles over 175 million customer interactions with its app a year across its customer base of more than 200 US health systems, hospitals, and physician groups thanks to unprecedented scalability powered by its AWS Cloud–based architecture. For Atrium Health, a North Carolina–based health system that has implemented the platform, Halo Health has been able to scale to accommodate 45 hospitals and dozens of emergency departments and other locations, unifying more than 30,000 users and upgrading 8,000 shared phones. From multiple input options aggregated within Halo Health’s service layer to security and push notifications, “you can see the intricacy of this architecture, all of which is powered by AWS, allowing for high scalability and high redundancy,” says Bryan Beaver, director of implementation services at Halo Health.
