Ladbrokes.live, a provider of streaming sports entertainment content operating in Belgium, was grappling with critical challenges that hindered their ability to attract and retain users. Partnering with AWS Partner, Cloudar—also based in Belgium—the company transitioned to a cloud-native architecture powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies. This transformation enabled Ladbrokes.live to deliver a seamless, personalized user experience featuring avatars that can be customized to deliver information and statistics relevant to the viewers’ interests, in their language of choice. The solution also helped Ladbrokes.live optimize operational costs and set the stage for continuous innovation in a highly competitive industry.

Opportunity | Transforming User Engagement in a Competitive Sports Entertainment Landscape

Ladbrokes.live faced significant barriers that limited their ability to grow and compete in the dynamic sports entertainment sector. Its legacy platform suffered from a fragmented user experience, with disjointed interfaces and inconsistent and out-of-date design elements, frustrating users and reducing engagement. Without a more compelling, unified digital experience, users often abandoned the platform, diminishing its potential to build a loyal audience.

Additionally, the company struggled to provide personalized experiences to its users. Their systems relied on outdated methods that delivered generic content, failing to resonate with individual preferences. This lack of personalization made it difficult to engage users meaningfully, especially during high-profile events like the Euro, where tailored experiences could make a significant impact. Compounding these issues was an outdated technology stack that relied on legacy infrastructure. This approach not only restricted scalability but also inhibited the integration of modern AI and cloud technologies needed for innovation. During peak periods, such as major sports events, the platform struggled to handle increased traffic, limiting the company’s ability to meet user demand and capture market opportunities.

Solution | Crafting Scalable, AI-driven Sports Experiences with AWS

Cloudar, a customer-obsessed technology consulting firm that specializes in AWS-powered solutions, partnered with Ladbrokes.live to address these challenges. Leveraging AWS, Cloudar and its implementation partner Keiro crafted a modern, cloud-native solution that took Ladbroke.live’s online capabilities to a new level. The new architecture was designed to handle the unpredictable and high-traffic demands of the sports entertainment industry, ensuring scalability and flexibility. Using highly performant AWS infrastructure such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) to store and manage vast amounts of content and Amazon Aurora to power the platform’s relational database needs, the system could seamlessly scale up during major events like the Euro. This provided uninterrupted service to users while enabling rapid expansion into new markets.

The partnership also introduced Amazon Bedrock, powered by the Claude 3 language model, to enhance user engagement through personalization. This technology allowed Ladbrokes.live to generate real-time dynamic content and insights, as well as personalized recommendations. These new capabilities created a tailored experience that resonated with users. By integrating advanced AI, the platform became more intuitive and user-friendly, significantly improving customer satisfaction. Furthermore, Cloudar optimized operational efficiency by adopting a serverless architecture and leveraging the AWS pay-as-you-go model. This approach helped ensure high levels of performance and reliability while keeping costs manageable. Enhanced security measures were also implemented, ensuring robust protection for user data and seamless compliance with evolving regulatory requirements, making the platform secure and adaptable across different jurisdictions.

Outcome | Enhancing Loyalty, Reducing Costs, and Accelerating Growth

Cloudar enabled Ladbrokes.live to go primetime with a complex website twice as fast as it would have been able to do itself, and the transformation of its platform delivered impactful results across several key areas. Cloudar’s solution powered an up to 80 percent productivity gain in generating compelling commercial media, and by addressing the fragmented user experience and introducing tailored content, the platform fostered deeper connections with its audience. Cost savings were achieved—up to a 60 percent reduction in TCO of the platform was realized through optimized resource allocation and serverless design, enabling the company to reinvest in strategic growth initiatives. These efficiencies not only enhanced the bottom line but also supported the scalability required to expand into new markets.

Ladbrokes.live’s ability to innovate accelerated, allowing the company to stay ahead of its competitors. With rapid deployment capabilities, new features and updates were introduced quickly, keeping the platform fresh and responsive to user needs. This agility positioned Ladbrokes.live as a top competitor in the sports entertainment industry, leveraging AWS technologies to redefine what’s possible in delivering engaging and innovative digital experiences.
