AWS Supports Radix’s Fast, Secure, and Reliable Web3 Developer Experience

RDX Works Ltd. (RDX Works), a developer of the Radix decentralized ledger, is transforming the Web3 and decentralized finance (DeFi) user and developer experience with a “full stack” of tightly integrated layer 1 technologies accelerated by AWS tools and services. AWS has supported RDX Works in developing several products to help Web3 developers work faster and smarter in a secure, highly available environment.

Overview

RDX Works Ltd. (RDX Works) is focused on creating the best possible developer experience for Web3 and decentralized finance (DeFi). With the industry losing billions of dollars to hacks over the last year, the need for more secure and intuitive development tools has never been more apparent. RDX Works aims to solve these barriers by contributing to the development of the layer 1 smart contract platform Radix.

The Radix “full stack” integrates several cutting-edge technologies to help developers create mainstream-ready Web3 experiences. These include a custom-built consensus algorithm, virtual machine, programming language, and wallet. RDX Works is using AWS services like Amazon EC2 and Amazon VPC to build, test, and run aspects of the core node software, gateway, and related services.

Using AWS to Build, Test, and Run Web3 Products and Services

For RDX Works, AWS has been instrumental in building, testing, and running aspects of the Radix core node software and gateway. Many related DeFi services, such as Instapass and Instabridge, are also powered by AWS.“For the last 3 years using AWS, the way we’ve been able to grow has been incomparable,” says Raul Velaz, head of engineering at RDX Works. “We haven’t experienced any downtime and have always had great support.” RDX Works has also become an AWS Activate Provider, a program that helps startups quickly get started on AWS.

Creating a Secure, Intuitive Environment for Web3 Development

RDX Works delivers secure and reliable tools for developers, such as seed nodes, test networks, and gateway services. Powering these capabilities are Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), which provides secure and resizable compute capacity, and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), which defines and launches AWS resources in a logically isolated virtual network. By combining these with the containerization capabilities of Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), a managed Kubernetes service, RDX Works has tested globally distributed networks at scale.

As part of the processes that RDX Works pursues to keep its products and services secure, it adopted Amazon GuardDuty, a threat detection service that monitors AWS accounts and workloads, and AWS CloudTrail, which monitors and records account activity across AWS infrastructure. It also participated in AWS Well-Architected reviews, which provide guidance for building secure, resilient, and efficient infrastructure.

Delivering Next-Generation Tools to DeFi Developers

AWS has supported RDX Works in developing next-generation tools to facilitate Web3 and DeFi development, including smart contracts written in the Radix platform’s own programming language, Scrypto. As an asset-oriented language, Scrypto provides developers with native first-class features to create, send, and manage fungible and non-fungible tokens. “Scrypto protects developers from many Web3 and DeFi bugs, hacks, and exploits,” says Velaz. “You can think of it as a game engine for finance.”

Scrypto has resonated with the Web3 developer community. More than 12,000 developers have experimented with it, and over 50 projects are being built on Radix. “Developers were able to learn Scrypto fast,” says Velaz. “One person built an entireDeFi application in 3 days.” A major upgrade for Radix, called Babylon, is scheduled to go live in September 2023. Using Babylon, developers can deploy production smart contracts written in Scrypto. As it grows, RDX Works will continue to use AWS to power its products and services, supporting the Radix network and beyond.
