FAQ

Q: Why should I track my service usage against quotas?

A: Tracking your usage against AWS service quotas shows you whether you are approaching a given quota so that you can proactively request a service quota increase before you exceed a quota.

Q: How much does this solution cost?

A: If you do not use this solution to monitor vCPU quotas, as of March 2021, the cost for running this solution in your primary account in US East (N. Virginia) is less than $2.00 per month, and approximately $0.50 per month per secondary account.

If you use this solution to monitor vCPU quotas, as of March 2021, the cost for running this solution in your primary account in US East (N. Virginia) is less than $6.00 per month, and approximately $4.00 per month per secondary account.

For more detailed costs estimates, including a break down of costs per AWS service, refer to to the implementation guide.

Q: Can Quota Monitor on AWS check quotas in multiple accounts?

A: Yes. The solution includes a spoke template that you can deploy in secondary accounts to monitor resource usage in secondary accounts and send notifications when you approach quotas.

Q: Can I specify what services to monitor?

A: Yes. By default, this solution checks all service quotas that Trusted Advisor checks. But you can specify which service quotas you want to check in both the primary and secondary accounts. For more information, refer to the implementation guide.

Q: Can this solution monitor Amazon EC2's usage against quotas?

A: Yes, you can continue to monitor Amazon EC2’s usage against quotas. For the new EC2 On-Demand Instance quotas, Limit Monitor now checks Service Quotas for your Amazon EC2 virtual central processing unit (vCPU) usage against quotas and notifies you when you approach the vCPU-based instance quotas for your AWS account.

Q: Do I need premium support to use Quota Monitor on AWS?

A: To use this solution, each account must have a Business- or Enterprise-level AWS Support plan.

Q: Can I deploy the Quota Monitor on AWS in any AWS Region?

A: You must launch this solution’s AWS CloudFormation templates in the US East (N. Virginia) Region. However, once deployed, the solution will monitor quotas for all Regions in the account.
