AWS Quick Start reference deployments help you rapidly deploy fully functional software on the AWS cloud, following AWS best practices. AWS CloudFormation templates automate the deployment, and the guides describe architecture and implementation. Quick Starts are modular and customizable. You can layer additional functionality on top or modify them for your own implementations.

The Test Drives on this page illustrate some of the popular Quick Starts. Use these for proof of concept or to experiment with AWS architectures in a sandbox environment. Visit for detailed architecture and implementation guides if you want to customize the deployment or launch the Quick Start for production use.

This Test Drive deploys Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) on the AWS cloud. The RD Gateway uses the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) over HTTPS to establish a secure, encrypted connection between remote users on the Internet and Amazon EC2 instances running Microsoft Windows, without needing to configure a virtual private network (VPN) connection. This enables you to reduce the attack surface on your Microsoft Windows-based instances while providing a remote administration solution for administrators.

All Test Drive solutions are available for later purchase, deployment, and production use on AWS from the APN partners who provided the Test Drive.
