AWS re:Invent 2023

Anthropic at AWS re:Invent 2023

In this AWS re:Invent 2023 fireside chat, Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic, and Adam Selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS) discuss how Anthropic and AWS are working together to responsibly deploy generative artificial intelligence (AI). Anthropic is known for developing AI systems and large language models with a focus on safe, steerable, and reliable solutions. Anthropic’s foundation model, Claude, is available to AWS customers through Amazon Bedrock for a broad range of industry use cases.

Anthropic began using AWS in 2021 to train its first model. Today the company leverages AWS as its primary cloud provider to support mission critical workloads. Anthropic is using high-performance, low-cost compute — provided by AWS Trainium and AWS Inferentia chips — to develop and train its future foundation models.

AWS customers across industries are choosing Claude on Amazon Bedrock for its unique features and capabilities. Claude 2.1 provides customers with an industry-leading long context window of 200,000 tokens, the equivalent of over 150,000 words or 500 pages, as well as the ability to customize and fine tune models using their own data. For example, through Amazon Bedrock, Claude is used by LexisNexis for AI-powered legal search features, by Pfizer for biomedical research, and by Bridgewater Associates for an investment analyst assistant.

Anthropic’s commitment to safety by design is evident in its organizational structure – over half of the research team is dedicated to AI safety. By pioneering techniques like Constitutional AI, advocating for both internal and external red-teaming of AI systems, and publishing a Responsible Scaling Policy, Anthropic aims to build the safest and most technically sophisticated AI systems available.

We are excited to use AWS’s Trainium chips to develop future foundation models. Since announcing our support of Amazon Bedrock in April, Claude has seen significant organic adoption from AWS customers. By significantly expanding our partnership, we can unlock new possibilities for organizations of all sizes, as they deploy Anthropic’s safe, state-of-the-art AI systems together with AWS’s leading cloud technology.”
