AWS RoboMaker announces support for Robot Operating System (ROS) Melodic
AWS RoboMaker, a service that makes it easy to develop, simulate, and deploy intelligent robotics applications at scale, announces the support for ROS-Melodic Morenia, which is the latest long term support (LTS) release for ROS. Now with AWS RoboMaker, customers can build robotics applications with ROS-Melodic, in addition to the existing ROS-Kinetic distribution.
Customers can choose the ROS version they would like to be pre-installed and configured in RoboMaker’s integrated development environment so that they can start coding right away. ROS Melodic is compatible with the Gazebo 9 simulation engine and with the Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic) operating system.
AWS RoboMaker extends the most widely used open-source robotics software framework, Robot Operating System (ROS), with connectivity to cloud services. This includes AWS machine learning services, monitoring services, and analytics services that enable a robot to stream data, navigate, communicate, comprehend, and learn. AWS RoboMaker provides each of these cloud service extensions as open source ROS packages, so you can build functions on your robot by taking advantage of cloud APIs, all in a familiar software framework.
