SIOS Protection Suite for Linux on AWS

Accelerate the deployment of highly available Linux clusters

This Partner Solution deploys SIOS Protection Suite for Linux on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. It builds a virtual private cloud (VPC) with two Availability Zones and launches SIOS Protection Suite on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances in the private subnets.

SIOS Protection Suite is for organizations building failover clusters in Linux environments on AWS. It includes SIOS LifeKeeperSIOS DataKeeper, and Application Recovery Kits (ARKs). This software provides high availability, data replication, and disaster recovery (DR) protection for SAP, SAP S/4HANA, Oracle, and other Linux applications.

This Partner Solution uses an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) with Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model for SIOS Protection Suite for Linux, available in the AWS Marketplace.

This Partner Solution was developed by SIOS Technology Corp. in collaboration with AWS. SIOS is an AWS Partner.

  •  What you'll build
  • This Partner Solution sets up the following:

    • A highly available architecture that spans two Availability Zones.*
    • A VPC configured with public and private subnets, according to AWS best practices, to provide you with your own virtual network on AWS.*
    • In the public subnets:
      • Managed network address translation (NAT) gateways to allow outbound internet access for resources in the private subnets.*
      • Linux bastion hosts in an Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling group to allow inbound SSH (Secure Shell) access to EC2 instances in public and private subnets.*
    • In the private subnets, two cluster nodes featuring SIOS Protection Suite for Linux.
    • Amazon CloudWatch Log groups to monitor, store, and access log files from EC2 instances.
    • AWS Systems Manager runbook to automate the deployment.

    * The template that deploys the Partner Solution into an existing VPC skips the components marked by asterisks and prompts you for your existing VPC configuration.

  •  How to deploy
  • To deploy SIOS Protection Suite for Linux, follow the instructions in the deployment guide. The deployment takes about 30 minutes and includes these steps:

    1. If you don't already have an AWS account, sign up at https://aws.amazon.com.
    2. Sign up for the 14-day free trial for SIOS Protection Suite for Linux or obtain a runtime license by contacting SIOS.
    3. Subscribe to the SIOS Protection Suite for Linux on RHEL 7.4 - BYOL Amazon Machine Image (AMI) in the AWS Marketplace.
    4. Launch the Partner Solution. You can choose from the following two options:
    5. Test the deployment.

Amazon may share user-deployment information with the AWS Partner that collaborated with AWS on this solution.

  •  Costs and licenses
  • This Partner Solution uses Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) from AWS Marketplace. In addition, this deployment of SIOS Protection Suite for Linux uses a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model. You can purchase a runtime license or request a 14-day free trial license. You also have the option of using a Pay As You Go (PAYG) license model, which installs a basic license. If you want to upgrade to full functionality later, contact SIOS sales.

You are responsible for the cost of the AWS services and any third-party licenses used while running this solution. There is no additional cost for using the solution.

This solution includes configuration parameters that you can customize. Some of these settings, such as instance type, affect the cost of deployment. For cost estimates, refer to the pricing pages for each AWS service you use. Prices are subject to change.

Tip: After you deploy a solution, create AWS Cost and Usage Reports to track associated costs. These reports deliver billing metrics to an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket in your account. They provide cost estimates based on usage throughout each month and aggregate the data at the end of the month. For more information, refer to What are AWS Cost and Usage Reports?
