Why do I get an error when I try to close my AWS account?

If you get an error when you try to close your AWS account, check the following:

• Be sure that you're signed in as the root user of the account. Only someone signed in as the root user can close the account. If you can't sign in as the root user of the account, then contact the root account user and ask them to close the account on your behalf.
• To close the management account for an organization, remove all member accounts in the organization first.
• Try using a different web browser to close the account.

Note: For privacy and security purposes, AWS Support can't close accounts on request.
