When you're creating an Amazon Route 53 alias resource record set for an ELB load balancer, a CloudFront distribution, or an Amazon S3 bucket that is configured as a website endpoint, the console displays the value 'No Targets Available' in the Alias Target list.

For CloudFront distributions, ELB load balancers, and Amazon S3 buckets, the objects that you have created appear in the Alias Target list only if you created them by using the same account that you used to create the Amazon Route 53 hosted zone. You can still create alias resource record sets that route DNS queries to those resources, but you must manually enter the applicable name in the Alias Target list.

To create a Amazon Route 53 alias resource record set, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to the AWS Management console.
  2. In the applicable console, get the domain name of the distribution, the DNS name, or the domain name of the Amazon S3 bucket that you want to route DNS queries to.
  3. Open the Amazon Route 53 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/route53/, and click the name of the hosted zone in which you want to create an alias resource record set.
  4. If the objects that you have created do not appear in the Alias Target list, manually enter the applicable name in the Alias Target list:
    • CloudFront distribution – Enter the CloudFront domain name for the distribution, such as d111111abcdef8.cloudfront.net.
    • ELB load balancer – Enter the DNS name of the load balancer. For more information, see the procedure Getting the DNS Name for an ELB Load Balancer in the Amazon Route 53 Developer Guide.
    • Amazon S3 bucket configured as a website endpoint – Enter the domain name of the Amazon S3 website endpoint in the following format:
           s3-website-region.amazonaws.com
The region value represents the Amazon S3 region in which the bucket is hosted; for example, us-east-1.
For more information, see Values for Alias Resource Record Sets in the Amazon Route 53 Developer Guide.
  5. Click Create.
