Andrew Grant, chief executive of Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC), wanted his district to focus on its citizens. AVDC is the first local authority in the UK to launch a skill for Amazon’s voice-controlled Alexa. Using artificial intelligence, the Council is changing how its constituents access services. Residents can ask for various information, including: who are the political leaders of the council, council tax payment options, and what items can go in recycling bins. There is also an option to book assisted waste collections. By using the AWS Cloud, the Council enjoys the flexibility to scale resources up and down as needed, and only pays for what they use, freeing up assets and reducing infrastructure costs.
