Announcing the AWS Migration Competency

Workload migration is a key milestone of the customer journey on AWS, and helping customers map out a clear and comprehensive migration strategy is a top priority in which AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners can provide enormous support. But customers need guidance to ensure they’re connecting with the right AWS Partners who’ve proven they have a strong AWS practice, have demonstrated customer success, and have demonstrated technical proficiency throughout the different phases of migrations.

Making sure the right AWS Partners are highlighted to customers and making it easy for customers to connect with these partners is the ultimate goal of the AWS Competency Program. Attaining an AWS Competency allows you, as an AWS Partner with specific expertise, to differentiate yourself to customers by showcasing this expertise.

We currently have AWS Competencies across a number of specific solution areas (including DevOps, Big Data, and Security, to name a few) and today, I’m excited to announce the launch of our newest AWS Competency, the AWS Migration Competency.

Announcing the AWS Migration Competency

AWS Migration Competency Partners provide solutions or have deep experience helping businesses move successfully to AWS, through all phases of complex migration projects, discovery, planning, migration and operations.

These partners focus on developing their customer’s internal skills and helping to build the foundations required for executing complex migrations to AWS. They are experts in reducing friction when migrating legacy applications.

The AWS Partner Competency Program has validated that the AW Partners below have demonstrated that they can help customers of all sizes migrate applications and legacy infrastructure to AWS.

A High Bar for Partners – Migration Competency Requirements

To ensure we are recommending top AWS Partner Migration solutions, we’ve set a high bar for AWS Partners who wish to attain the Competency.

For example, both AWS Consulting and Technology Partners must provide at least five AWS customer references specific to completed AWS Migration projects of 10 applications or more. AWS Migration Consulting Partners must have at least 10 AWS Certifications in total, including at least two Professional Level AWS Certifications, and Migration Delivery Partners must have at least 30 AWS Certifications in total, including at least eight Professional Level AWS Certifications.

AWS Technology Partners must be able to support their migration product or solution in three or more AWS Regions, meet AWS Security Best Practices, offer professional services to support usage, and provide a licensing model that allows for utility consumption, along with a number of additional requirements.

You can view all of the requirements to apply for the AWS Migration Competency here.
