Amazon Web Services Announces the AWS Marketplace for Desktop Apps and Amazon WorkSpaces Application Manager

Posted on: Apr 9, 2015

You can now purchase applications for Amazon WorkSpaces from a new AWS Marketplace category called AWS Marketplace for Desktop Apps. Choose from a broad selection of more than 100 applications in eleven categories, including Security, Productivity and Collaboration, Business Intelligence, and Illustration and Design. You can purchase software quickly from within the Amazon WorkSpaces console and pay as you go on a monthly basis.

To simplify deployment of these desktop applications, Amazon WorkSpaces Application Manager (Amazon WAM) is also now available. In addition to selecting applications from the AWS Marketplace, businesses can upload their own line of business applications and control access to their applications using Amazon WAM. Amazon WAM makes it possible to package, deliver, and manage applications to Amazon WorkSpaces that run as if they are natively installed, but remain under management control for simplified maintenance and auditability. Amazon WAM uses application virtualization technology to speed provisioning and provide fine grain controls to IT administrators, all from within the Amazon WorkSpaces console.

Update 9/1/2022: Amazon WorkSpaces Application Manager (Amazon WAM) is reaching end of life and will no longer be available starting on September 1, 2023. Visit the WAM End of Life FAQs for more information.
