I have an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) Reserved Instance (RI) that expires soon. Can I schedule my EC2 RI to renew automatically?

It's not possible to schedule an EC2 RI to renew automatically. When an EC2 RI expires, any benefits associated with the EC2 RI also expire. If you have an instance running that benefited from that EC2 RI's pricing benefit, it's now billed at regular, on-demand rates.

To continue to get the benefit of an EC2 RI, purchase a new RI term when your current RI expires.

Note: EC2 RIs impact only the price of EC2 instances on your account. When an EC2 RI expires, it doesn't cause any instances to shut down or terminate.

To view your active RIs and see when they expire, check the Amazon EC2 console.
